DjCam’s involvement in the Brisbane music scene kicked off in 96 after moving back to Brisbane and sharing a nine-bedroom house with some friends from high school. She collected music, attended events around the Brisbane scene, became friends with other musicians and helped to promote various parties along the way.
At this time the big sounds rocking the dancefloors were Garage, Speed Garage, Acid House, TripHop and Breaks. It was the golden era of clubbing in Brisbane. This was the era that shaped DjCam the most and her sound today is still reminiscent of this era of electronica. Many of the records DjCam plays being remixes of the classic throwdowns of the 1990's, many of them being originals making Cam's digging still about the old records and not so much about purchasing the latest releases of today. Her passion for vinyl became material when encouraged by an associate who was already involved in the scene to go digging at a second hand record store in Brisbane's West End. LP's were being sold for as little as $8 and $5 AU a piece which made digging addictive. It was there that she found her first bag of booty. Pressings on Plus-8, Red Planet and Underground Resistance. Solid gold. |
