A note on Summoning :
Sorcerers and Arch Maguses are the only classes in Tele Arena that can summon monsters. There can be up to 5 summoned monsters per area. Once the sorcerer/magus logs off the system, all summoned monsters revert to ‘wild’ status, unless the sorcerer/magus ‘gives’ them to another player with the ‘follow <userid>‘ command. If the sorcerer/magus is in a group at the time, they need only appoint someone in the group as new leader and the monsters will belong to that person.
Summoning can be one of the easiest and safest ways of gaining experience fast at low levels. The low level player first joins the sorcerer/magus’s group. The sorcerer/magus will then summon a monster. The low level player then ‘leaves’ the group, attacks the monster, then ‘joins’ the group. The sorcerer/magus doesn’t need to add the low level player because the simple act of asking to join the group is good enough. This process may be repeated as long as necessary. If a player in the group attacks a summoned monster while still ‘in’ the group, that monster will turn on the group and attack.
Other summoning strategies might include summoning 4 brigands and a wraith. While the wraith paralyzes the other players, the brigands would be busy robbing them and giving the gold to the sorcerer/magus. Smaller, nuisance creatures to summon are any form of orchids, because they can poison players.
Summoned creatures may also be useful as ‘cannon fodder’, taking the hits from monsters that would normally be directed at the sorcerer/magus. This strategy is largely wasteful for an Arch Magus, however a low level sorcerer needs all the help they can get.
