My Review

There is one word that can do this movie justice: Amazing! When my friend and I stepped into the theatre on November 7, we were looking forward to seeing one of if not THE most anticipated movie of the year. We took our seats, sat through about 15 minutes of previews, and then it began. It all started with a reporter coming on the screen reporting live from the planet "Klendathu". It was only after we began to pay attention when a giant bug absolutely shredded the reporter. Now I'm not talking Braveheart shredded, I'm talking slashed and torn from limb to limb. This was only the beginning. We were then emerged into the lives of Rico and his friends, joining the military to gain Citizen status, only to have their families slaughtered and they themselves being thrust into the war. One of the most noticeable aspects of this movie is the fact that for the first half of it, it could pass as PG-13. Then what do you know: we are suddenly thrust into a neo-facist world, complete with brutal boot camps, co-ed shower scenes and love scenes(woo-hoo!), and brain-sucking aliens. Another notciable aspect of this film is the strict attention to detail. The different classes of bugs really adds a lot to the movie and helps keep the battle scenes from becoming repetitious. Also, there is some truly awesome weaponry in this movie. In particular, the mobile infantry uses some sort of concussion nuclear grenade which wipes out massive hordes of the bugs. The one and only complaint I have about this movie is that the beginning drags on a bit. We the audience want to see killing, killing, and more killing right away. Putting this aside, the movie is an absolute must see. If you only see one movie this year, see Starship Troopers.
