Bastion - An Overview

Bastion is the defense alliance of most empires in galactic Sector G. Originally proposed by the now-collapsed Chilkit Coalition's High Clerist Kyrill, who was assassinated later by United Anarchist Collective agents, Bastion exists to protect sentients from sector-wide threats. Bastion, simply put, is a revolutionary idea. Empires unite in defense of every sentient in the Sector, not just member empires. Using the Bastion Militia which is composed of ships from all member empires, it protects Sector G from threats from outside that threaten to destabilize or harm the Sector's majority. The Militia is basically an organization of minute-men who can rally in defense of all empires, erecting a united front of defense against invaders. The founding principal of Bastion is it's refusal to attack small forces. Individual empires being threatened by other individual empires may not seek Bastion military aide. Bastion is only activated as a defense against an enemy that threatens the Sector as a whole. When large organizations launch an attack that threatens to destabilize the Sector, Bastion mobilizes to thwart it. Large organizations include but are not limited to organizations from outside Sector G such as Major Empires or leagues of Minor Empires.

Bastion's foundation, it's Charter, appears below:

The Oath

To protect those who cannot protect themselves,

To protect the Sector from outside threats,

To protect eachother from others....

The Purpose

The purpose of Bastion Alliance is to protect the Sentients of Sector G. We will accomplish this through the Bastion Militia, a fleet of ships that each member state sends to defend the sector should a Threat emerge.

I. Articles of Defense

A: All members of the Bastion Unity swear to uphold and abide by the Articles of this Treaty. If a member refuses to abide by the Articles, then all current members shall refuse to acknowledge the offending member as a supporter of Bastion, and the offending member shall no longer be able to reap the rewards of Bastion membership.

B: The purpose of the Bastion Unity is to defend Sector G from any Outside Threat or Threats to the whole Region within.
1. An Outside Threat consists of any force from outside Sector G that engages in hostile actions toward Sector G. This includes Spying, Attacking, trying to establish Colonies, or engaging in a Trade Embargo, among other things.
2. A Threat from inside Sector G consists of any Force's activities that threaten to endanger or harm the Sector as a Whole.
3. To determine if a Threat effects the Whole Region of Sector G thereby enacting the Accords of this Charter, or rather it effects just a single Empire, a Vote shall be taken by all members of Bastion. The Vote shall be on whether or not to enact this Charter, or to allow individual Empires to deal with the threat themselves. A simple Majority Vote shall be the deciding factor.

C: At the time these Accords are enacted, all Member Empires must contribute to the Defense of Sector G. This contribution may vary from Empire to Empire depending on Bastion's needs at that time. At that time, each Member Empire will elect one person to be the "Ambassador" to Bastion. Any of these Ambassadors shall be capable of activating Bastion by sending out a sector-wide S.O.S. call. In the interest of speed, Bastion shall be a Crisis Action Team, mobilizing member Forces towards a common goal of defense in times of crisis.

D: At the time the Threat is dissolved, all member Empires will go back to their respective Regions of control; Trade and Daily Life will return to normal. Bastion will only go into effect after a documented and clearly unprovoked attack on a Member or protected world by a Large Threat. This Threat need not originate outside of the Sector all the time. Bastion will not be brought to bear against single Empires, only Major Empires or Alliances of Minor Empires.

E: There will be no "Bastion Fleet." It will be instead a Sector-Wide militia of Minute-Men in order to cut down on corruption and decrease response time.

F: However, if it is found that a member Empire has been provoking an Enemy, there will be strict and heavy punishments. These will be decided by the Ambassador Council. Punishments are but not limited to:
