...Operations, Deep Space Nine...
You've just transferred off of the USS Thunderchild, which is now transporting Lt. Commander Worf to the IKC Negh'Var. You will serve as temporary Strategic Operations officer for the Bajor Sector during Worf's mission with the Klingons. You walk up the steps into Benjamin Sisko's office on Starbase Deep Space Nine. You see him through the glass door as he motions you to enter.
Sisko: Commander Hennessey, welcome to DS9.
Hennessey: Thank you Captain. You wanted to see me right away?
Sisko: I'm afraid that we're going to rush you into duty already. Starfleet Intelligence has made a number of startling discoveries concerning Dominion activity near Deep Space Nine. Our last probe through the wormhole picked up a new network of listening posts and senor bouys in the Idran system. We believe that they may be collecting information on DS9 and somehow transmitting it through the wormhole. Starfleet wants that network destroyed as soon as possible.
Hennessey: You said there were a number of discoveries?
Sisko: Yes. The next is what is believed to be a secret Dominion spy station inside the Badlands. Ever since the Maquis were destroyed, there has been scattered activity in that area. Starfleet needs someone to go to the Badlands in an attempt to locate, gather information on, and destroy, if necessary, any Dominion installations. The last thing is that we have picked up a distress call from the USS Freedom, which was believed destroyed by the Jem'Hadar in the K'tapa sector. It may be a trap, but I believe that it is worth the risk. The Freedom was the lead ship in a task force of 8 ships. If she is still out there, some of the others might be as well.
Hennessey: So what are my orders,sir?
Sisko: That is your choice, Commander. Starfleet has ordered me to stay behind with the ninth fleet in the event that the Dominion makes any advances near Bajoran space. But, these missions will require the firepower and cloaking device of the Defiant. You will take the Defiant with Major Kira and proceed to complete the objectives you choose.
Hennessey: I understand, sir. When do I leave?
Sisko: Right away. Chief O'Brien is standing by now to beam you aboard. Good luck Commander.
Hennessey: Thank you sir. (Tapping your comm badge) Hennessey to Defiant.....enerigize when ready.
Sisko: Oh, and Commander, make sure you bring my ship back in one piece...
Sisko's last words fade as you are engulfed in a sea of sparkling blue light.
As the sparkling fades away, the image of a starship bridge begins to form in front of your eyes...
