Mysteries in a House
By R HigginsWhen I was 7, my family and I moved from Michigan to Rogersvill, Ohio. I am not really sure what happened to the previous renters of our house, but after living there I can imagine what happened to make them leave. The house was built in 1834 and was used as a shelter for soldiers in one of the early American wars.
The first strange phenomenon in the house was during the first night my dad stayed there. He was alone in the house as my mother, brother and I were still in Michigan. According to him, while he was sleeping soundly, he was awakened by a man in an old civil war costume. He didn't say any thing, but stood there for a while. When my dad asked who he was, he just vanished into thin air.
The next encounter was something I will never forget. It was Christmas Eve and my grandfather, who didn't believe in ghost until then, and my cousin spent the night at our place. They were sleeping on the couches in the living room. One of the couches was near the fireplace, which had been closed up and the other was near the entrance to the piano room. It was about 3 o'clock in the morning when I was awakened by my grandfather's yelling. I ran downstairs and to my surprise the couch he was sleeping on was levitated with my grandfather still on it.
I never had experienced anything like this before but somehow I knew I could do something to stop it. So I took a deep breath and yelled out the words, "In the name of Jesus and our Lord, please leave us be!" Immediately the couch dropped and my grandpa thanked me. Why my cousin or any other members of my family were not awaken I do not know.
In fact, my cousin was visited by a spirit in his dreams. He described the spirit as a very beautiful lady who told him the house was evil and a small girl from the family was the chosen one. She disappeared before he had a chance to ask what she meant. In the morning, we looked around for clues but to our amazement the closed-up fireplace was open and a fire burning on it.

A Hungry Ghost
By X-Files FanMy grandfather told me this story about an experience that happened to one of his best friends. There was this house in East Tennessee that everyone claimed was haunted and no one dare to spend the night in. This particular friend of my grandfather, wanting to be the brave hometown hero, decided to spend the night there.
He went into the house well before dark and set up his stuff in the upstairs bedroom. He, being a big believer in early to bed, early to rise, was in bed by 8pm. Precisely at 9pm, he heard the main door opened and then the kitchen door. He heard pots and pans being removed from the cabinets and soon he could hear the sizzling of meat frying. In fact, he could actually smell bacon and eggs. He wanted to go downstairs, but thought better of it.
Afterwards, he heard a kitchen chair being pulled out and something sat down. He could hear the fork scraping the plate. A while later he heard the chair move again, dishes were placed in the sink and water was run. He heard the clatter as the dishes were washed and put up and the pots and pans were replaced in the cabinets. Finally, he heard the kitchen door and then the main door opened and closed again. He stayed under his sleeping bed till morning because he was too scared to move.
Of course, nobody believed that he stayed the night in that haunted house, so he did it one more time. This time he sprinkled flour all over the kitchen floor. He really thought his friends were playing a trick on him. He sprinkled so much flour that an ant couldn't have walked through without leaving a track. He waited in the dark upstairs and the visitor came at exactly 9pm for his meal again. After, it had left, he rushed downstairs to see if there were footprints in the telltale flour. THERE WEREN'T ANY!

Tormenting
By an anonymous contributorI went to my friend's house one night. Her cousin, Janet, was there too at that time. Ally offered us some drink and went into the kitchen to get us something. Janet, who was with us, looked out the window and started yelling, "They're looking at me! They're laughing! Stop! Stop!"
Ally, shocked by the commotion came over to see what happened.
"Who's laughing at you, Janet?"
"The... the ghost! Please make them stop!"
Ally tried to calm her down and then went to open the blinds. "See, there's nobody there," Ally tried to convince her.
However, Janet let out a loud scream and then rushed out of the house immediately. Ally told us she never step foot into the house again.
