Too Much A Shock
10 June 1998

Story by fArRa97 of Alor Setar, Malaysia.
Edited by Will Ong

This story happened to my friend's auntie. This story was true but I will change the names. My friend's auntie, let's call her Maria, lived in Ipoh, Malaysia with her only daughter, Ani. She was about 50 years old.

One night, as usual, Maria waited for Ani to come back from work. Ani worked in a factory and she usually came back at 12 or 1 a.m. Maria was exhausted that night after having a long day but she insisted on waiting for her beloved daughter to come back. She nearly fell asleep when she heard someone knocking on her door. The knocks were very loud that she jumped off from the sofa and rushed to the door. Maria hastily opened the door without even asking who was knocking. At that precise moment, she let out a very sharp scream. The neighbours rushed over and found her fainted on the doorsteps. She remained unconscious until Ani arrived home shortly.

With the help of the neighbours, Maria was brought to the hospital but she became paralysed after the incident. No one knew what actually happened on that fateful night. She must had seen something so frightening that caused her such a shock that it made her paralysed for the rest of her life. Ani had seen many bomoh (Malay medium) to cure her mother but she failed. The bomoh could only tell them what happened on that fateful night.

It was believed that Maria saw a ghost or something even worst. She is still alive but remained paralysed and unable to talk. I heard that they had since moved to Kuala Lumpur.

Blood
20 March 1998

Story by Desiree Koh of Singapore
Edited by Will Ong

Two young women went to the cinema one day to watch a movie. Somewhere in the middle of it, one of them had to go to the bathroom. She asked her friend to accompany her, and because her friend didn't want to miss any part of the movie, she stood by the door as her friend went it (the bathroom was adjacent to the theatre, and was accessible from it).

The one who went in was having her period at that time, and after she was done, tossed her soiled pad in the direction of the bin, but missed. It fell on the floor next to the bin, and she didn't bother to pick it up. As she washed her hands, she sensed a presence, and instinctively turned in the direction of it. She saw an old woman squatting next to the bin, the soiled pad in her hands, licking the blood off of it. Naturally, she was startled and ran out. She told her friend, and dragged her in when the latter didn't believe her. Naturally, the friend didn't see anything, and told her she was seeing things.

A few months later, the girl who went into the bathroom fell sick, and when she went to the doctor, was diagnosed with leukaemia. The consensus is that the entity she saw licking her blood was essentially 'licking' her life away. You see, leukaemia has blood reference, something like that.

I'm sorry if some of you found that story in bad taste. I just remember it scaring me a lot, and it has also kept me out of cinema bathrooms ever since.

Mistaken Death
20 March 1998

Story by Desiree Koh of Singapore
Edited by Will Ong

My friend's mother is a nurse, and works in the wards where terminally ill patients recuperate after operations and chemotherapy treatments. In this particular ward, there are four beds, and they are arranged 2 by 2. Something like that:

Bed A Bed B (Jay)
Bed C (Mike) Bed D

A patient, let's call him Jay, just had a cancerous cyst removed and was placed in bed B. Jay was well on his way to recovery. On bed C was a patient, Mike, who had a terminal disease and the hospital staff were actually prepared for him to go any day then.

One afternoon, both the patients in bed B and bed C were wheeled out of their room for check-ups or something. The orderlies who brought them back were relief staff who didn't know their way around very well. So Mike was placed in bed B, and Jay in bed C instead. The mistake was not discovered till later that evening when the doctors came to do their rounds.

Apparently, that was too late. From then on, Jay, who was supposed to recover within a few weeks, saw his condition grow worse, and Mike surprised everyone by getting better. The beds were literally turned, and Jay eventually passed on while Mike's health miraculously took a turn for the better.

Seems like that afternoon, some folks somewhere had decided already which one would go, and forgot that they had the wrong guy.
