Ever since he was a child, his mother would make hot Earl Grey tea for him, and his brother Robert. Robert, Renee. As soon as the conference was over, he planned to return to earth. While there, he had promised to take Renee to the Planetarium in Paris. Picard was greatly looking forward to spending time with his nephew. The last and first time he had seen Renee, Picard was still coping with what the Borg had done to him. That, and the fact that he was still not getting along with his brother. But that was over now. He and Robert had reconciled their differences, and Robert had invited him to visit. But for now, Picard had work to do. He looked over the list of security measures that Lt. Worf had suggested for the conference. To Picard's surprise, none were overly paranoid. As long as the other diplomats agreed, Picard saw no reason not to implement every one of them. Which reminded him, he cleared the list from the screen on his computer, and looked at Worf's service record. He was overdue for a promotion. When the conference concluded Picard would send in his recommendation that Worf be promoted to Lt. Cmdr. * * * * Lawaxana Troi sat in her quarters, relaxing. She had finished with her preparations for the conference, and now she had to decide what to do with her self until they arrived. "Hmmm, perhaps I could interest Jean-Luc in a game of chess." It was a game she'd recently learned from a Vulcan friend of hers. It had seemed tedious at first, but as the game went on, she began to appreciate the strategy involved and finally began to enjoy it. "Computer, is Jean-Luc currently on duty?" "Affirmative, Captain Picard is on duty until 1700 hours." "Drat." She still could not get over how much the computer's voice sounded like hers. "Oh well." In her state of boredom, she couldn't help but notice the Romulan ship de-cloaking next to the ship. "What in..." her voice broke off as she faded away in the Romulan Transporter. * * * * "Cmdr. Romulan ship de-cloaking off the port bow." Data reported tensely. Or as tense as an android could sound. "Shields..." before Riker could complete his command, Deanna shouted in alarm. He whirled around to see her engulfed in a Romulan Transporter. "Deanna!" He turned back to the veiwscreen, the Romulan ship was recloaking. Soon, it was gone. "Computer locate Ambassador Troi." "Ambassador Troi is not on board the Enterprise." "Captain to the bridge. We've got a serious problem." * * * * Jubilee sat in his empty room staring into space, holding his guitar and listening to "Who Wants to Live Forever". It had been a week since he had died, and she still felt empty inside. Her life just seemed to get worse and worse. Her parents had been killed, Wolverine had left, and now this. Even the fact that Wolverine had returned could not cheer her. A single tear crept down her cheek. Until now, she hadn't thought she had any tears left. She'd thought she had lost him once before, during the Infinity Crusade. She had even had to fight him, because that damn Goddess was controlling his mind. And now he was truly gone. He'd been turned into a werewolf by some bitch. Jubilee supposed she would never know why Will had been singled out, and in truth she didn't care. He had died protecting her, from the female werewolf that had changed him. He'd been impaled on a silver pipe. "Well sitting in here feeling sorry for myself won't help my mood." she thought. "I guess I'll go outside and feel sorry for myself." She put down the guitar. Her hand rested on it a moment as if she could absorb some part of his essence from it. Finally she sighed and trudged out of the room. * * * * "What is your purpose here? What did you mean about the conference?" Charles Xavier hovered on a thin line between fascination, curiosity, and concern. "Oh not to worry Chuck." Q smiled. "I'm merely here as an objective observer. Think of me as the audience Charley. As for the conference, you're about to meet some old friends of mine. Not to mention the fact that the upcoming conflict will be ever so much fun to watch. But perhaps I've given away to much of the plot. Oh well, as long as I'm messing with people's minds..." With that, he vanished with a flash of light. "That was certainly strange." Xavier thought. "What could he have meant?" * * * * Jubilee sat in the newly created clearing, gazing at the trampled trees. It was here the experimental new Sentinels with the inter-dimensional-thingamawhatzers had attacked the X-Men, almost a month ago. (All this took place just prior to X-Men of Tomorrow, check out the disclaimer for that to figure out what I'm talking about.) Will had been the first one hit. When he'd vanished without a trace, Jubilee had been sure that he'd been dead. In truth, he'd been sent to an alternate dimension, to a world called Krynn. He'd landed in the middle of an ocean, and was captured into slavery by Minotaur. He'd also met fellow slaves/gladiators Sturm Brightblade, and Caramon Majere in the slave pits. (Dragonlance: Meetings: The Companions) The rest of the X-Men Blue Team had been transported only minutes later as one by one they had been hit by the Sentinel's strange weapon. However by Krynn time, it was days later. Time flowed much differently in Krynn. The X-Men had been found and rescued by a race beings who were half man, half bird. They, along with Raistlin Majere, Tanis Half Elven, and Flint Fireforge facilitated the escape of Hotshot, Caramon and Sturm. Then the X-Men helped their new friends break the spell over Tasselhoff Burrfoot, Jubilee still smiled when she remembered him, rescue the captive Kitaira Uth Matar, and stop an evil ritual that would have released one of many Evil God's, Sargonnas, into the world. (Again, in Dragonlance: Meetings: The Companions. Use your imagination.) After this first adventure, the X-Men had spent five years searching for a way back home. (Dragonlance: Preludes; Volume 1, Beast and Wolverine; Volume 2, Hotshot and Jubilee; Volume 3, Gambit and Rogue. Preludes II; Volume 2, Psylocke; Volume 3, Cyclops.) But they never found one. Finally, they encountered the X-Men Gold Team, to find that only a week had passed since their disappearance in their world. (Dragonlance Chronicles 1-3. X-Men Gold ends up with Laurana fighting the Dragonarmies, and X-Men Blue ends up with the others.) After the long struggle that followed, Raistlin, now a archmage, sent them home. Only a month after they'd left. None of them had aged a day. * * * * Jubilee's reminiscing was interrupted by a sudden flash of light. "He's not dead you know." Q said quietly. To be continued...
