Advanced and Exalted Powers

Every Power has Advanced and Exalted versions, that offer greater and greater effects. The exact qualities of these powers vary greatly, so they are not specified here. Characters can learn Advanced and Exalted Powers by testing the limits of what they can do with their normal powers, and carefully studying the results.

Just put the name of the Power you are studying on your wish list, and the SG will judge from the story and the contributions you have made, exactly what you will be capable of, and what it will cost you to achieve.

Characters can spend time studying the deeper aspects of their Power, and so have more flexibility of use. Or they can learn some quick and dirty tricks, and not spend so much time studying theory. It's your character.

Of course, Amber is also a learning process for the player. It takes many, many hours of play time to master the use of even the basic forms of power.

There is a danger in jumping too quickly into the advanced forms, in that you, the player, may become power-heavy, and never learn to use the subtlety of the power. Your character's story might suffer as a result.

Related Powers

Broken Pattern, Flawed Pattern

These are more limited versions of the Real Pattern, found as distorted reflections, not far from Amber in Shadow. Most Amberites don't know of their existence. Merlin comes across some Broken Pattern initiates in his adventures.

These powers (and their advanced and exalted version) are available to PCs as well. The characters must find them in Shadow somewhere before being able to use them.

Fixed Logrus, Rim Logrus, Black Zone Logrus

These are the Logrus equivalents to Broken and Flawed Pattern. They do not occur in the books.

Shadow Powers

These can be just about anything imaginable. If your character wants a strange and unusual power, they can simply go find it in Shadow. Merlin's series of books contain some interesting examples, most notably the Fount at the Keep of Four Worlds.

Shadow Powers work well with Constructs.

Combined Powers

There are many, many combined powers once related, advanced and exalted powers are considered. Once you start experimenting with combinations of Powers, you will probably be able to develop some unique combined Powers of your own.
