Contributions
You can do something for the story.
The Story Guide of an Amber campaign has to do a lot of work, a lot of intense planning, and has to engage in challenging story guide skills.
So, it's only fair that the players be set up with the opportunity to contribute their fair share.
There are two types of contribution you can make.
The first is the individual contribution, directly related to the stories your character is involved in.
The second is a group contribution.
I'm willing to consider additional ideas to those given here.
In fact, here is an email with some more ideas.
Individual Contribution Examples
This type of contribution is worth one point for each contribution, or two points if every player gets a copy.
Players who object to displaying their character's secrets for the other players can always write lies in the copies they give away!
Diary
This is a write-up of the player character's story, written by the player. Not only does this provide excellent documentation, but it serves to 'fix' the character in the mind of the player, allowing for a better handle on the persona.
A diary is in addition to the general emails concerning conversations and activity by your character. Obviously, it builds on them. This is an opportunity to expand on why your character does things, what they're thinking and planning.
Trumps
For the artistic player, the assignment is to draw 'Trump' of important characters and places in the story. Everyone enjoys having actual Trump of the various player (and non-player) characters. Of course, the more the merrier, and each player is encouraged to come up with his or her own version of the Trump.
Shadow Backgrounds
This is a way of developing extra detail on something that sparked your interest in Shadow during the session. It is usually a place, but it could be an interesting person or group of people.
Just write a couple of pages on it, background information. Don't forget to set up several story 'hooks' with which the campaign can grab the Shadow and pull it into the story. Then the SG can integrate what you write (maybe with some small changes) into the ongoing story.
This background can be a part of something you've bought, or not. The first places to do are your own, but if you run across somewhere interesting, make sure you write it up. And perhaps later you can acquire the Shadow for yourself!
Amber Stories
If the player likes writing, especially fictional writing, then this is the opportunity to write Amber stories. The idea here is to write about your character, or about other characters in the campaign.
Poetry
Poems, based on the events in the campaign, or on the characters' quirks.
Group Contribution Examples
This type of contribution is worth a variable number of points, depending on the whim of the SG. Usually only one player can do each task.
Historian
The idea is to write up a public account of the campaign's events, at least of the major things that happen concerning Amber.
The historian also answers questions from other players about what has happened previously in the campaign.
Internet Wizard
The player maintains a WWW site of the campaign, with all the background material and character contributions. Making this site a little more exciting would be great.
Contribution Guidelines
All players may gain extra points through Contributions. For those short on points, up to 10 points of credit is available when the character is designed.
The debit is applied as Bad Stuff during each week that the borrowing player does not provide at least one new contribution.
Wish Lists are considered a summary of the character's goals as expressed in the contributions.
The more detail about your motivations and Wish List goals included in the contributions, the more likely you are to get roughly what you want for your character.
