Since Shape Change is relatively unknown, more information is only available to those characters who would possess it.
Basic forms are what the more complicated Shape Change abilities are based on. Basic forms may have inbuilt Element Qualities. Basic Forms are determined by genes, psychology, and the manifestations of Chaos and Order in your body, and do not change.
The Basic Forms, like Blood Inheritance, can only be bought when you first design your character.
They cannot be added in later. There is no known way of acquiring new Basic Forms later on. So choose carefully!
The first Basic Form is free, if it does not affect story mechanics. The default form is human. Additional Basic Forms cost at least 5 points each.
The cost of a Form with Qualities is higher than, but based on, the cost of the Qualities.
The ratio of the cost of the Form to the cost of the Qualities is 5:3. For every 3 points you would have spent on Qualities for an artefact, you must spend 5 points for the same Qualities in a Form.
For the first Basic Form you can spend up to 15 points. That's equivalent to 9 points of Qualities. For additional forms, you can spend up to 25 points on each. That's the equivalent of 15 points of Qualities.
Denizens of Amber have one basic humanoid form, worth 0 points.
Denizens of the Courts, whether Shape Changers or not, have two Basic Forms: an adolescent human form, and a demon form. The demon form is natural, and is worth 5 points (equivalent to 3 points of Qualities).
Denizens of the Black Zone have a natural demon form worth 5 or more points. Only some of these have human forms as well.
Denizens of the Shadows, can of course have any form or forms at all. They are typically humanoid, but could be vampires, werewolves, have tech enhancements, etc.
This could lead to some very interesting Shadow PCs with the expenditure of some points.
Basic Forms must be substantially different from one another.
