I heard many of these songs for the first time when I saw the Trio's reunion program on PBS several years ago. My mom was clapping and singing along, and I asked her if she had any of this group's albums, or if she has seen them in concert. She answered yes to both questions and dug out about 5 albums from her old record box. Before I knew it, I had fallen in love with the beautiful harmony, as well as with the zaniness of many of the lyrics. It's hard to believe, listening to the music today, that many of this group's songs were censored from airplay because of "questionable content." An interesting note: The Trio recorded many of the more popular folks songs before they were made popular by other groups/artists. These songs include "The Marvelous Toy" and "Blowin' in the Wind."
The Bragging Song WandererOne of my favorite memories of the Minnesota State Fair was my Grandma taking all of her kids and grandkids to see Peter, Paul and Mary at the Grandstand. Before then, I had listened to the children's tapes the group had made, such as "Peter, Paul and Mommy" and practically memorized the words to songs like "The Marvelous Toy" and "Puff the Magic Dragon". Another of my favorites "Here in Right Field" reminds me of my own hopeless unathleticness.
