Sarah's Reading Recommendations

I am a speed reader, and I tend to read books over and over again, finding new details or new insight each time I read the final pages. Somehow the fact that I already know the story's ending doesn't seem to bother me. I read mostly historical, science or medical fiction, though I do admit to reading a few on the less inane romance novels. As for non-fiction, I tend to fixate on my subject of interest. In the past, these subjects have included the Romanov dynasty (especially just prior to the Russian Revolution) and survivors' stories of the Holocaust. I also enjoy reading about British history, of kings and queens. This includes learning all I could learn about the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745, in Scotland.

"The Chalet School" series, by Elinor M. Brent-Dyer. I own or have read around 40 of the 60-odd books on the list. Some of my favorites include: "The Chalet School in Exile" (in which Joey Bettany and Co. must flee from the Nazi-occupied Austria), "The Chalet Girls in Camp" (in which the girls spend a summer at Guide Camp, with various exploits) and "Tom Tackles the Chalet School" (in which Tom Gay comes to the Chalet School, and sets it on its ear in her attempts to "remain a gentleman.") Much of the language of these books is, to say the least, odd. Before I knew that the school didn't actually exist, I wanted to be a Chalet School Girl. I am SO addicted, so when I visit Canada, or someone I know makes a trip to England, I request these books. Many of them are out of print, and likely to remain that way.
