Background
Raised in the slums of LA, Alec knows a lot about how to stay alive, but not much beyond that. His father was a drug-dealer who was killed in a gang war before he was born and his mother died of disease when he was only nine. Taken in by a local gang, Alec learned all the tricks of the street. He very rarely took an active part in the drugs and wars that his gang was involved with, usually preferring to simply run sleight-of-hand games on the street. Despite his distance from most of the criminal aspects of his "family", Alec still learned how to defend himself with a knife and frequently was forced to. His life was progressing smoothly (as smoothly as it can for a teenage ganster in LA) until he one fateful day when he was seveteen. As he had grown older Alec had started to develope an affinity and skill for gambling and so spent quite a bit of time in local casinos. He alo found that in addition to gambling he quite liked the social setting and soon became quite adept at the fine art of making people like him. So much so that he could usually step into the middle of an argument and diffuse it into laughter and smiles with a few well-chosen words and gestures. He also found that when he found any woman attractive he was irresistably compelled to attempt to flirt with her. He never saw it as a danger because he never believed that he had any real chance with any of them. Then came that one day when he found out just how wrong he was. Things were suddenly out of control and Alec suddenly found that he had lost his virginity...to the girlfriend of his gang's leader, Cor Badoni. They both vowed that it would never happen again...but Alec found he could not stop his words or actions and the aforementioned woman found she could not resist him. Then they got caught. Enraged beyond reason, the gang-leader ordered the other members to chase him down and kill him. Cor was not terribly well liked at that time as he had become paranoid and frequently threatened other gang members, thinking they were spies for rival gangs. Still, the others would not challange him and so chased young Alec until they finally managed to corner him. His back to a wall and with nothing else to do he pulled his switch blade and prepared to fight the four men who had caught him. They were all veterans of such fights and Alec knew he could not beat all four of them. They rushed and he panicked. But in his panick something strange happened. Alec felt his hope straining against something and then suddenly he felt as if in a dream. He saw with perfect clarity not only where his oponents' blades were, but also where they would be. Alec easily dodged their attacks and slipped past them. He had discovered magic. The next day he skipped town and has not returned to LA since. But he did not leave his bad habits behind. Since that day he has moved from town to town, gambling, living on the streets, ending up in bed with several women, and fleeing to the next city with several angry men on his trail. With this life-style he has managed to pick up quite a few enemies, but also some allies both powerful and common in nearly every city between LA and New York. The most memorable city to Alec is Boston, where he met the first love of his life, a young Cultist named Brianna Tadeski. Brianna recognized him as a Mage and introduced him to what she knew of the world as it exists. The two fell in love and lived together for many months, during which Brianna tried to show Alec more of magic and eventually succeeding in teaching him how to take his ability to move objects and senses through the world around him and apply the same technique to himself. Unfortunately the two were seperated when a particularly vengeful husband from Chicago finally tracked Alec down with a large group of friends. Alec was forced to flee amidst a hail of gunfire and when he returned days later found that Brianna was gone. Accepting that he would probably never find her again, Alec continued as he had before Boston, drifting from city to city.
When Cor died during a drug deal ambushed by the police Alec decided to return to LA to pay his respects. He was met by his old gang with hostility and before he could smooth things over he found himself pulled into a quest by a group of strange mages. Vampires had begun moving into LA in large numbers for some sort of conference. Their presence endangered Alec’s old gang. Still feeling loyal to them, Alec joined the mission to rid the area of vampires. He proved instumental in infiltrating the vampire meeting area where the mages trapped the vampires in a large underground room and then set it ablze. His gang safe for the time being Alec left the area as soon as possible, eager to be free of his annoying and arrogant associates.
Paradigm
Luck. Desperation. Fun. These are what magic are for young Alec. Though he takes the world quite seriously, he feels that if you aren't enjoying yourself...well, why be here at all? And magic is the key, the extra edge to achieving that enjoyment. Or to escape the consequences of such enjoyment. Magic is what happens when a person focuses and exerts his hopes and wishes on the world around him. When Alec sees others working magic around him, or when others see much there is no particular effect asociated with it. The way Alec sees it, controlling the world through magic is like controlling an object with your hand. It's all a matter of simply flexing the correct part of yourself to manipulate the world around you.

Time: Savor every moment. Time is the never-ending flow that pulls us along towards the water-fall. Whether that fall has no bottem or leads to a new river is no concern to Alec, he's just concerned with enjoying the ride. And if paddling in a certain direction will make the ride better than so be it. And of course there's nothing stopping people from looking up and down streem if they can lift their eyes from the water in front of them. No one can stop the flow, but someone who can move how they want within it will truly love life. Correspondance: What you're doing and how much you're enjoying the flow of Time depends greatly on what in the river you can reach...and who else can reach you. Alec moves the world around him just as he moves humself through time, only instead of swimming with or against the current, he is swimming from side to side.

Entropy: Below the surface of the river lie complex systems of currents. All things flow in the river of time. People. Buildings. Cups. Playing cards. And by splashing a little water their way you can change their course. Sometimes Alec does this without even thinking about it. It isn't that he cheats at things like card games. He abhors cheating of any kind. But games have a tendancy to cheat for him.

Spirit: A curse. A fear. Alec is not so much incapable of learning about Spirit is he is afraid to try. With all the rage and jealousy directed towards him, along with some very unhappy spirits, Alec prefers to keep himself blind and deaf to that other world. He focuses solely on the river around him and not what is beyond the water-fall. He hopes deperately that those who fall over the edge can never swim back up.

Mind: The powers of one's Mind are great, but Alec believes that each mind should be an island unless both sides reach out. To know, or to influence other people's thoughts or feelings...well, that would be cheating. Mind magick is for those who lack the social grace to influence others through more conventional means.

Forces: Things sink in the flow of time. They bob. They are buffetted by wind. But these things requires far too much patience and self-control to master for Alec's taste. He realizes that forces control most of what we see around us, but he would rather stay low-profile and not meddle with such awesome powers.

Matter/Life: What makes up the world around us. It is everywhere and everything, but only on a physical level. What is truly important is what happens in the world beyond matter and life, in the world of emotions and thoughts.

Prime: Prime is the very water of the river. It is the medium that allow all other forces and objects and people in the river to exist as they do.

You flex your arm to push an object. You flex your tounge to form words. You flex your legs to run. The hair on your arms tells you of the wind blowing past. Alec understands that we also have muscles other than those that can be seen. Alec flexs to push time, to see patterns. He feels time and space pushing all around him. Alec simply performs magick by flexing these muscles to exert forces on reality. This requires no trangable focus, but makes it difficult for him to sustain complex effects when he is exhausted.

Correspondance: Alec can grip all of reality around him and then push things through that medium. These things can be objects, senses, magic, or even himself (thanks to Brianna).

Time: Alec feels the flow of time around him, like a rush of water pushing all of us. He can "see" how time flows ahead of him and behind him and can push the flow one way or another.

Entropy: Sensing entory is something Alec feels, like tiny hairs inside his mind always telling him which direction the winds of chance are blowing. As for effecting that wind...he doesn't try to. The wind simply has a tendancy to blow in his favor, though he can't figure out why.

Prime: When Alec awakened magic coursed through him and he suddenly became very accutely aware of every "muscle" he posessed. He can't get the mechanics of most of them right, but he knows they are all there. He can also see reality and can tell when another mage is flexing against it. Currently, Alec is trying to figure out how to flex against himself and then push back against the effect so that hopefully one day he will be able to push back against others.
Equipment
Alec's possesions are few. He generally has a deck of cards or two, as well as some dice of various kinds (none weighted). He generally also has some mints. Other than that his only worldly possessions are his motorcycle (I'll decide the kind and paint later) and his two finely crafted stilletos, which he keep tucked in the sleeves of his jacket most of the time. Alec is a dashing young man with fairly short black fair and bright blue eyes. He is fairly thin and not particularly built, but he isn't too thin either. I'll work on other traits later. His clothing ranges between fairly expensive suits and his biker outfit, which consists of a visored helmet, leather jacket, black boots, and black jeans.

Avatar
Alec's avatar is a woman who's various muscles and limbs correspond to Alec's magical muscles. When he pushes time, she pushes against it with her arms, etc. She has the drawback that when stepping through the gauntlet to perform magic she can not reach back into the spirit realm, partially because the area around Alec so rather crowded by angry spirits. That is why Alec can not perform spirit magic.
