Hudson Leick August 27, 1998 Moderator: Hudson - can you hear me??? HudsonLeick: Yes Moderator: Cool! Moderator: Hi everyone - welcome to tonight's scifi.com cyberchat with the lovely actress Hudson Leick. Brief word about the drill - this is a moderated chat so please send me your questions for Hudson via a private send. Moderator: Hudson is best known for her reoccuring role on "Xena" as the Warrior Princess's arch-nemesis, Callisto. She's also appeared in reoccurring roles on "Touched By An Angel" and "Melrose Place." Moderator: Welcome Hudson! Is it more fun to play an angel or a psychotic sword-wielding immortal? HudsonLeick: By far the psychotic! Moderator: : Hudson, How did you feel about the way they ended your character on Xena:WP's season 3 finale? I was sorely dissapointed, I had hoped Callisto would find some sort of Forgivness/Innerpeace before dying. HudsonLeick: Hmmm...Me too... Moderator: : You have said you enjoyed your previous convention at Valley Forge. Are you looking forward to your next East Coast convention this Saturday? HudsonLeick: Oh yes. My parents will be there! Again! Moderator: : Is there any new roles in the near future? HudsonLeick: Yes, but nothing I can discussion until the ink is dry on the paper! Moderator: : What is your favorite episode? HudsonLeick: Hmmm.... When I became a god Moderator: : Good evening, Hudson. Would you be interested in doing a Callisto spin-off series? HudsonLeick: Oh no....no...no...no...no... Moderator: No movie names! Hudson lives in the present. : what are some of the movies you've appeared in the past, so I can look for them? HudsonLeick: I feel done play Callisto, though I've enjoyed it emensely. And who wants to see a bad guy kill people every week... Boring. And if she turns good, wouldn;'t show be called Xena? Moderator: TrooperK25>: When people see you on the street, do they look at you like "she's evil"? HudsonLeick: Yes, but that has nothing to do with Callisto! Moderator: Is there any truth to the rumour about you playing another character alongside Bruce Campbell in a new series? HudsonLeick: ???... Moderator: : I've seen quite a few seens where you were near fire, in a burning building or something, are you afraid of fire, do you like it? or what... HudsonLeick: I specifically asked for a lot of fire to be around me at all time... HudsonLeick: No HudsonLeick: Really, it's just in the script. HudsonLeick: Do I like it? HudsonLeick: Sure. It's nice on cold days. HudsonLeick: GA Moderator: : Have u learned how to do most of your stunts in the show, or is it mostly stunt doubles? HudsonLeick: I fight most of the scenes Hand to hand combat We have doubles for tumbling and doubles for the equistrian scenes. If you don't see my face -- then it's not me... Moderator: : Is the costume you wore for plaing Callisto uncomfortable? HudsonLeick: Costume question...People always ask me that. It's chillly if anything, in the middle of winter. And the kneepads are uncomfortable HudsonLeick: But thanks for your concern. Moderator: At least they're not presidential kneepads... Did you see this one? Moderator > : Ms. Leick, are you troubled by Callisto's popularity? Isn't it a reflection of the cruelty and indifference of modern society that so many people identify with her situation? HudsonLeick: Indeed I am not HudsonLeick: I actually find people sympathtic to her because the modern human being has so much repressed anger, that it comes out crooked And I think instictually, subconsciencously we know this to be true as a culture, and hopefully by seeing this brings more comp[assion to each person's own anger HudsonLeick: If not, people are just sick :-) Moderator: Okay! We jumped the gun with this one but here it is again... Moderator > : Hudson (sorry if this is a dumb question :) - that IS you singing, in the Bitter Suite, right? Or was it just an incredibly good voice casting job? HudsonLeick: It's not a dumb question -- it was someone else! Moderator: : Hudson, did you expect your career on XENA to go this far? HudsonLeick: Absolutely not Moderator: ..: Hudson do you go online? HudsonLeick: I don't own a computer, nor would I know how to turn one on! HudsonLeick: But my family keeps me updated on websites occassionally! Moderator: But you've done quite a number of these chats now... Moderator: : How many episodes will you appear in both Herc and Xena next season? (Be it as Liz Friedman, or the Priestess or whoever) HudsonLeick: I've only done one episode so far... Moderator: : Hudson, does your sister still pester you to go after Star Trek roles? Did you try out for the role of the new Dax on Deep Space 9, or as Picard's love interest in the ST9 movie? HudsonLeick: No, she doesn't pester me anymore. She has a newborn child to fill up her time... So I haven't been auditioning for ST of late! Moderator: ...: Hudson, How about a movie based on the TV series? HudsonLeick: How about it! Moderator: : Ms. Leick, there has been much debate about your new hairstyle. When an actor's appearance changes suddenly, it is often the result of a new role. Is this true in your case? HudsonLeick: No HudsonLeick: Wait... HudsonLeick: I decided to go against the general idea of beauty Moderator: Ah! Okay: : When u became a god, and u had to eat that ambrosia, what was that made out of HudsonLeick: Unsweetened hardened gelatine...Yum! Moderator: Ick! : "Do you prefer playing Callisto on Hercules or on Xena?" HudsonLeick: The questions is slightly unclear... Moderator: : Hudson, can you tell us the difference between fighting against Lucy, and fighting against either of the Kevins? Do you get beat up more by the guys? (i.e., they're more solid ) HudsonLeick: Absolutely! HudsonLeick: My forearms usually get pretty bruised by either one of the Kevins. And my forgetting no to hit them full force. Moderator: ...: Hudson, I was courious if you like to read in your spare time (if there is such a thing), and if so ... who is your favorite author? HudsonLeick: I'm so glad you asked... I don't have a favorite author...But I'll tell what I'm reading now...One Autobiography of a Yogi HudsonLeick: And HudsonLeick: The Alchemiist HudsonLeick: And Siddartha HudsonLeick: One more book Lightening Bolt! HudsonLeick: I huighly reccomend those books! Moderator: : Between hyjacking planes, and laying waste to villages, what time period do you prefer to act in? HudsonLeick: Time periods... HudsonLeick: I don't tuely have a time period, though I do enjoy period pieces and their costumes Moderator: ... : Hudson, do you have any pets at home? If so, what kind HudsonLeick: I do... Griffin the wonder dog Moderator: ..: Ms Leick, have you ever been injured seriously? or has any main character for that matter? HudsonLeick: Only my ego! Moderator: ...: I've read in interviews that you have given that you were growing tired of playing this character. What other sorts of characters would you like to play? HudsonLeick: Something more demure...like a drug addict HudsonLeick: A spiritual drug addict Moderator: ...: Hudson-- You have played good and bad on TV, examples being Callisto and the science teacher, Ms. Hunter I think was her name, on 7th Heaven. Which one do you like playing better? Which one is more challenging for you personally? HudsonLeick: Honestly I think that playing a quote unquote normal role is more challenging. Moderator: ...: "Siddartha's a great novel...how deep is your interest in eastern "mysticism"? Do you train in any martial arts? HudsonLeick: Deep HudsonLeick: I can't fathom how to honestly answer that...Getting deeper as we speak Moderator: Nope? to : Knowing how crazy us nutball fans are, would you take on another role that had the potential for fandom that Callisto did? Can you see yourself speaking at conventions in 10 years? HudsonLeick: Oh my god... HudsonLeick: I doubt it...the convention part...But sure, I like fans Moderator: ...: Hudson, what sort of sports are you interested in?? HudsonLeick: I don't think that yoga is a sport, is it? Moderator: Moderator > : Who is your best friend on the set? Moderator: Moderator > ... HudsonLeick: God Moderator: ...: Is there anything you really hate about fame? HudsonLeick: I think the fact that people treat you other than simply human Moderator: : Hello Hudson. What is filming in New Zealand like versus filming here in the States? HudsonLeick: I find Kiwis to be harder workers. And no alot of room for complaining. I prefer Kiwi crews Moderator: A comment - : Moderator: can you recommend The Tibetan Book Of The Living and Dying by Sogyal Ripnoche to Ms Leick? I'm sure she'd love it And a question: : Ah! A Question of mine migth just be answered! who are your role models/fav actors or actresses? HudsonLeick: I have gotten halfway through it twice... I love it, but very, very heavy. I mean to try again. Moderator: ...: When you get wet in the show, doesn't the leather on your costume shrink? HudsonLeick: Wait a sec HudsonLeick: That's an interesting question... I'm not going to answer that :-) Moderator: ...: Hudson I am trying to make it to the acting world, I am 13, any advise? HudsonLeick: If you're serious, focus yourself, go to acting school, learn the business of selling yourself -- but don't lose yoursel;f and your true nature., Good luck. Moderator: ...: ... Hudson what is your take on the lesbian subtext of the show? Although not originally intended it keeps resurfacing. HudsonLeick: Quite happy, thank you! Moderator: ...: You once said that the writers finally let you tell them the way you wanted Callisto to say some things. What were some of the Hudson inspired quotes Callisto has said or situations Callisto has gone through? HudsonLeick: I can't recall word for word...An example..."Here, piggy, piggy, piggy..." that's mine!
