I value my free time and like to fill it well doing and learning as much as I can. These are the things that make me thrive, to really live and not just survive:

For nearly all of my 20s I went to raves and techno/psy-trance parties, but as I've gotten older and more mellow, I enjoy chill-out, ambient jazzy music. I still love a good techno/trance set now and then, but not as often. I also love world music and native ethnic music from various countries. I especially like Arabic music and many forms of Indian classical and devotional as well as a fusion between ambient and ethnic. I love percussion of many different styles and I also like Australian didgeridoo. I am also a proclaimed 80s pop and new wave music lover! Duran Duran was my favorite during my entire teenage years. I also love Kylie Minogue and good female singers in general. For some reason, I tend to gravitate toward women's voices.
I'm a news hound and hopelessly addicted to talk radio -- I had invested in a CCRadio Plus! I could listen all day long, and here's a confession sometimes I do! Unfortunately, now that I am living in Bangkok, my CC Radio is in storage and I cannot listen all day. But all my favorite stations have streaming audio, so when I go online, I also get my fix. Here are my favorites: I love listening to KGO AM 810. That's the station I listen to pretty much all day long. All the hosts are fantastic, but the one who I like the most is the Gene Burns program. He has a great common sense approach. I also enjoy listening to Ronn Owens - he's also written a book that was pretty good; it's mentioned on his website. Coast to Coast AM with George Noory is a favorite. Art Bell, the founder of the show and still king, is on during the weekends. He will always live on, but Mr. Noory is doing a great job with all things that go bump in the night. Can't listen very often anymore though, since I'm 15 hours ahead in Bangkok! Besides KGO, I enjoy KSTE 650 out of Sacramento, particularly Armstrong and Getty in the morning. They are so hilarious, yet very very articulate when they discuss news. Who else reads the missed connections section of the News & Review every week on the air?!? =)...
Although I haven't drawn anything lately, I LOVE to draw and use colored pencils. I have a few of my pieces scanned, so I'll share them with you. My latest ambition is to create a coloring book of faerie tale princesses on unicorns, etc... the kind of thing little girls LOVE to color. I'll share my progress as it happens (it hasn't started as of yet!) Saharan Bride: I took this from a National Geographic. I thought she looked so innocent and pretty in a wild, tribal way. Colored pencil sample: I had a bit of good luck in that the shading turned out really nice. I have to practice some more with my technique before I feel confident. |
