How to successfully drop an egg
if you are ever told by your science teacher to create a container that will host an unboiled egg, that can be dropped from 3rd story of a building and not break, read this:
easy way: if the weight of the container is unimportant, go to a store and buy a plastic peanut butter container, open it, insert the egg, scrape off excess peanut butter, close lid, throw.
hard way: if the weight of the container is important, you must work hard. Buy "stuff", it is sold in Home Depot and other stores like that (stuff is "expandable foam"). Go and buy yourself a small coke or a sprite in a plastic can. Drink or dump the liquid, and poke MANY holes (large nail sized) all over (CAUTION: making holes is very difficult but essential - be careful) - the walls, and bottom. Cut off the top of the mutilated coke can. Take an egg of the size of the egg you'll have to later put into the container. Wrap the egg tightly in plastic wrap (one layer would do). Wrap a few strands of tape around it. Attach the egg to the edges of the coke can so the egg is suspended in the air and is NOT touching the walls and is pointing with the "pointy" edge down.
Now it's time to use "stuff". WARNING: read the instructions on how to use the expandable foam, and make sure you don't come in contact with it, it is nasty. Carefully fill in (slowly) the container (start with the bottom. Continue filling till the egg is totally covered.
Now let stand for about a day (half a day might do)
Finally, cut off the bottom of the can, and then the remainings of the can you can cut off with scissors. Carefully cut open the part where the egg is so that the egg is sliced in half (you don't need to actually slice the egg. Take out the egg carefully.
Now you have a perfect container for another egg which is just two pieces of foam. Now you will need to attach a little tail to the back so that the container always lands bottom first.
See the pictue below (not shown) This little container weighs about 30 grams and has kept the egg from breaking when it fell from third story of a building.
