King Tut (Maybe...) -- Luxor
Yet another amusing story.
As best we can tell, this is a statue of king
Tutankhamun and his lovely wife, who are credited with decorating
this section of the hypostile hall. However, if you look at the
cartouche on the statue, it's listed as someone else.
Pharaohs were notorious for 'tagging' the
momuments and statues of previous Dynasties with their own name,
in order to add to their personal glory -- and possibly keep
enough likenesses of themselves around in case a majority of
their own were destroyed. This is just another case.
So wouldn't it be kind of funny if the offending
tagger, and not King Tut, was now missing his mouth in the Underworld?
