Alex Maskara - Philippine Gay Imaginings, Other Tales

Being Still

Oh well, I was finally offered a couple of days off and I did nothing but rest and surf and revise what I wrote in the past. Yes, my dear readers, I worked on Boy Luneta Part 1 the last couple of days. I worked on it sporadically, between reading two books (The Brooklyn Follies by Paul Auster and Engulfed by Flames by David Sedaris) and waiting for Fay hurricane to pass by. I was not able to go out during Fay. The weather was so severe I had no choice but stay home. The two books I've read are written by two exceptional writers and I just enjoyed them immensely. Added to reading, I've also watched Netflix movies. I've watched two of the Guillermo del Torro movies: The Pans Labyrinth and The Orphanage. His movies are kind's weird, they occur on the realm between the living and the dead. His cinematography is awesome.

I watched other movies, some forgettable, some awesome: The Devil Wears Prada, Spiderwick or whatever Diaries, Force of One, 3:10 to Yuma(fantastic!), The Golden Compass(?), and I don't remember the others anymore. At this point, the weather is better and I should wrap up the 'stay home' phase and get out starting today. I initially wanted to go to Las Vegas but reading on tourism guides, I found Vegas is REALLY meant for gamblers and drinkers and since I am neither, my plan fizzled. I prefer living the gay scene and guess what, I live in the city of Gay mecca. South Beach and Fort Lauderdale are the places to go though I am just sooooo lazy to go out to night life nowadays especially when nobody's with me. At my age I become so picky. If I were just going to a place to party, or seek some sexual fulfillment, I just don't feel excited about it. I swear reading a good book or walking in the park sound better to me. My co-workers told me to go somewhere, anywhere and I asked, where? I don't know why sometimes I spend more energy worrying where to go than just staying put and relaxing and enjoying. And I don't want to go anywhere just for the sake of going anywhere.

So, right now, I want to refer you to the Part 1 of Boy Luneta. It's kind'a long though.
