Into the Fire

Since the season finale of Season Two, we've waited. Waited for who's gonna get the Goa'uld? How is SG-1 going to get out of *this* one? What's going to happen next? In anticipation, on some Message Boards countdowns have started (Only 8 million days - or - 50 bajillion more hours until the Premiere of Season Three). Lots of effort, energy, and web space has been used, waiting for this exciting 45 minutes in every SG-1 fans life.

What a waste of time.

Sorry guys, but in my opinion, this just doesn't cut it. Now, granted, I am not a fan of Goa'uld episodes. I don't really like premieres/finales (they all try too hard). So, possibly, this could have gotten a negative review no matter what.

But I doubt it. I watched it with a very open mind. It was an (albeit grainy) tape that had been smuggled from Showtime-receiving America out to the deepest recesses of Muskoka, Canada. And I was very grateful for this. In fact, I was going through such SG-1 deprivation that it made Daniel's sarcophagus withdrawl look good! Plus, the sound cut out so that I could barely hear it near the end there. Perhaps once I receive my new copy (smuggled from the Showtime-receiving America to the not-so-deep Toronto suburb) which will be much nicer, cleaner, and audible, I will discover ingenuis, Shakespeare-worthy dialogue that will completely revive the rest of the episode, but I doubt it.

I may sound very negative. It's true, I am. I guess it's just that, after waiting three months, you think we could be spared from Super Carter, leg injuries that keep switching (kinda like Igor's hunch in Young Frankenstein, only not tongue-in-cheek), and really obvious stand-ins.

There were some good moments, however, which need to be mentioned. The SFX were very good. They were on a much larger scale than we've seen in the show so far, and lets hope they stay at the level they are at. The Tok'ra thing was original, and I never saw it coming. It was interesting seeing Tom Butler (who has, I believe, been in exactly one million Outer Limits episodes...including Mary 25, which also starred Michael Shanks) as a Goa'uld. It was fun seeing Hathor pushed into the cyrogenics chamber. Of course, we *know* she'll be back. But it was fun seeing it anyway. The whole Teal'c-on-Chu'lack- thing was very good. I'm starting to like, Teal'c. I never really had before. But now I'm starting to.

One other thing that I feel deserves a whole new paragraph: Hammond going "YAAAAHOOOOO!!!!!!" That was completely out of character, silly, and we may never see it again. That's why I liked it so much! You may have noticed that in some of the sillier fan fics (such as Spanish Inquisition or The Statue), General Hammond is given a very odd, silly part. That is because I feel he is a silly man. He has a Crown of Marble, and I think that's just the best.
