First Thoughts On TatooineI like the looks of this newest expansion from Decipher. It's fresh, clean, small, and has new personas! My only disappointment with Tatooine is it's lack of Objectives. For the first time an entire set (excluding Alternate Images) can be put together with 1 to 2 boxes! Here is my first look at Tatooine. Let's break down the card types in Tatooine. Dark side definitely got more effects and podracers. While the Light side has more interrupts and locations.
After looking at all of the cards the next thing I check is destiny numbers. Characters are usually the same, but boy was I surprised to find Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight and Emperor Palpatine ,from Death Star II, with 6's for destinys! There were no big surprised with this expansion except for dark sides lower destiny than light. Here is a break down of the destiny numbers.
WHOA!!! The Dark side didn't fare too well here. While neither side has a destiny 7 card, the Dark side doesn't even have a destiny 6 card. Dark side players will have to add some cards like Masterful Move if they want some higher destiny! OUCH! Podracing is leading to some hot debates on Decipher's message boards. Everyone is arguing which racer is best, Sebulba vs. Anakin. While they both have their own strong points, it really depends on the average destiny of the deck. Another plus is to track your destinies and hope your opponent isn't doing the same. Let's discuss the two racers. It is true. . .Sebulba's Podracer is running on fumes (one destiny) while Anakin's Podracer has a full tank (two destinys). It seems unfair until you consider that Sebulba is using a higher octane fuel (destiny +3). The many Podracing cards (Hit Racer, Neck And Neck, & Too Close For Comfort) will change to outcome of the race. I think we should play with this new mechanic before jumping to conclusions. As it always has been and always will be; the more prepared you are for a certain thing (podracing), the better you will be. Well, I have really enjoyed reviewing this expansion. It is so exciting to see new deck types emerge and others become retired. I can not wait to implement the new cards into all of my decks. |
