Disclaimer: No, I don’t own Buffy and Angel. They belong to Joss Whedon and the WB.
Note: Spoilers for Surprise/Innocence. Buffy wakes up during the night. This takes place before Angel runs out of the apartment and looses his soul. This is my first fanfic, so please be gentle. I love feedback. Please tell me what you think! Thanks.
Buffy aimlessly wandered around her room. She then spotted her photo album. Bored and restless she reached for it. It was a beautiful album. It was blue and the cover was made of a soft fabric. She smiled and gently opened it. But instead of seeing the usual pictures, there were ones of her and Angel. In each one, they were smiling, despite Angel’s tendency to look serious. It didn’t once occur to her that this was odd -- Vampires can’t have their pictures taken. But she continued to look. She recalled when the pictures were taken, and she sighed at all they had gone through. Suddenly she felt as if she was being watched. She knew who it was, because she could sense his eyes burning through her. Buffy uttered, "Angel?" She motioned toward the photo album in hopes that perhaps Angel knew where the pictures had come from. He had a solemn look on his face that scared Buffy. She knew something was wrong. "It’s over, isn’t it?" Buffy whispered almost inaudibly. Angel nodded. "Yes, Buffy, it is...for now." Buffy looked near tears, but Angel didn’t reach to comfort her, instead he continued to talk. "I’ll miss you. But you’ll have to be strong. You have to be ready to do the right thing when it’s time." Buffy angrily turned her back to him and said, "It’s not over. It can’t be." She could feel Angel slipping away. She turned to face him, but he was gone. But the words still echoed in her mind, ‘You have to be ready’.
Buffy awoke with a start. She reached over to Angel and sighed in relief. He was sleeping contentedly -- he was still there. Her dreams were getting more and more vivid. She feared the worst and it comforted her that she was with Angel. She wanted to watch over him day and night to ensure his safety. The pictures in the photo album from her dream reminded her that Angel was a major part of her life. Whenever there was a problem -- supernatural or otherwise -- he was there and he never once complained. She remembered the first time she met him, and she smiled. So many things had changed since then. Now, she was lying in Angel’s bed -- not exactly a bad place to be in Buffy’s opinion. She snuggled closer to him, not wanting to let go. The dream she had scared her and made her blood curl. The thought of loosing him...was just too much. Then as she nodded back off to sleep she thought, I’m so lucky to have Angel. So lucky... If only she knew what was about to come...
