Buffy checked herself in the mirror and grabbed her car keys.

"Mommy!" Buffy looked down to the thing that was clutching her leg.

"Hey, sweetie." Buffy crooned. The little girl looked up at her with tear-filled eyes.

"W-where are you going?" she choked out. Buffy stroked her daughter’s head.

"Abby, Mommy has to go away for a couple of days." Abby jumped up.

"NO!" she shrieked. Buffy sank to her knees.

"Sorry, but I have to go get some things for grandma’s store. I’ll only be gone for a few days." she explained.

"But what about my recital? You said you were gunna come!" she cried. Buffy hugged her and kissed her five year-old’s head.

"Daddy will video it for me! I’ll still see you!" Buffy tried to reassure her. The little girl’s forehead became ridged, her eyes yellow, and her teeth sharp. Buffy shook her finger.

"Don’t get that face with me young lady. I said I was sorry. It just came up. Now, I have to catch my flight, so go get Daddy to tuck you in." The girl’s face became human again and she stomped away. Angel walked out of the kitchen and stood next to Buffy.

"Now that’s going to take awhile for her to calm down." he said. Buffy gave him a sad smile.

"I’m gunna miss you." she whispered. She hated going away, but her mother just couldn’t make it to the art shows anymore. Angel embraced her.

"I’m gunna miss you too. Be careful, okay?" Buffy pulled away and planted a soft kiss on his lips.

"Of course. I love you lots."

"I love you too." Angel opened the door, but not a moment before Abby came tearing from the hallway.

"Wait, mommy!" she cried. Buffy dropped her bags and bear-hugged her child. She cried softly on her mother’s shoulder.

"I love you mommy. I don’t want you to go. I miss you to much!" she sobbed.

"Oh, Sunshine, I love you too! And I’m gunna miss you so much! But I’ll be back, don’t you worry. I have to go now. Be a good little girl for Daddy!" The little girl reluctantly pulled away and watched her mom descend the outside stairs.

"Come on, sweetie, let’s get into bed, before you catch a cold." Angel said, nudging her upstairs. She looked one last time at her mom and unwillingly followed her dad upstairs.

As Buffy finally got her bags put in the car she noticed something sticking out of the passenger seat. She cautiously pulled it out. It was a rusted rail-road spike and there was a note stuck to it. She tugged it off and read it out loud.

April Fools

She pondered on what it meant. Her heart stopped, she had to get out of the car now. Buffy grasped the door handle, but it was too late. The car exploded as soon as she opened the door.

Angel felt the explosion and quickly covered up his child. He told his daughter to stay put. He jumped down from the second floor and flew out the door, which was now hanging by the hinges. He just about died at what he saw. There were pieces of metal strune all over the yard and street. And worse yet, body parts. He sank to his knees and started to weep. He didn’t even notice as his daughter climbed in his lap and cried also.

Abigail hummed to herself as she skipped home. ‘Dad will be so happy when he sees that I aced the test!’ she thought happily. Smoke wafted into her nose. With her super-sensitive nose she knew there was a fire. Her stomach twisted in a knot and panic pierced her heart. ‘Daddy? Oh God no..DADDY!’ Abigail dropped her books and flat out ran the last two blocks home. Her lungs were scorching and her legs felt like lead. She stopped dead in front of her house. Flames licked the sky from the second story window.

"NNNOOO!!!!!" she screamed. She raced inside the smoky house. The furniture was thrown all over and tables were broken. Abigail didn’t have time to analyze the situation, but she guessed there had been a fight. A writing on the hall wall caught her eye ‘ April Fools ’ . She heeded it and searched on.

"Daddy?!" she yelled. She sniffed the air and the aroma of blood hit her with full force. It was coming from the kitchen. She ran into the kitchen and screamed. Her father lay on the title floor with a bloody object next to him. There was blood pouring from a wound in his chest.

"Daddy! Oh God..!" she rushed to his side and cradled his head in her lap. Her chest was tightening from all the smoke inhale, but she wasn’t leaving.

"Daddy you can’t leave me...nononononoNO! Daddy, there’s no way that you can go! Mommy left us, but you can’t either! PLEASE! I need you! DADDY! Ooohhh Daddy!" she wailed. Her father’s hand twitched. His eyes opened a bit.

"Abby..," he rasped, "...get out of here." Abby shook her head.

"No Daddy....I’m not leaving you..no and you can’t leave either!"

"My time...is o-over. Get..out of....here...I love..you..my sunshine." His body went limp and his eyes rolled into the back of his head.

"There’s someone in here!" a voice bellowed. Abby buried her head in her father’s chest.

"I love you too Daddy." she whispered and kissed his forehead. She felt arms encircle her waist and left her up.

"NOOOO! DADDY! I won’t leave you!" she screamed. She rained furious blows on her carrier. The fireman carried her outside and placed her on the side walk in the hands of a waiting Willow. Abby tried to push her away, but Willow squeezed her tight.

"I can’t leave him! NO! Let me go!" Willow stroked her hair and kissed her lightly.

"I’m sorry, baby, I’m so sorry." Willow sat down on the side walk with Abby in her lap. She rocked her slowly.

"Please..nono..let me go! I HAVE to go to him!! PLEASE! Auntie, he can’t leave me...why won’t you let me go to him?!" Abby sobbed. She pounded one last time on Willow’s shoulder.

"He’s gone, sweetie...oh God, Abby, I’m sorry!" she whispered. Cordeila ran up to them and wrapped her arms around Abby too.

"DADDY!!!" Abby screamed. Abby started to kick wildly and lash out with her fists.

"LET ME GO! I WANT MY DADDY! Please...let me go, let me see him, won’t you?" Abby whimpered. Xander came up and coaxed Abby from Willow and Cordeila’s arms.

"Will you let me go to my Daddy? Hhhmm? Will you let me go? Uncle Xander please?" she begged.

"It’ll be alright, sweetie, I promise." Xander soothed.

"That’s what Daddy said when Mommy died. But it wasn’t okay, how will you make it okay?" Abby asked. Xander swallowed a sob. He laid her in the back seat of his car. Willow climbed in next to her and rubbed her back.

"Make it better, will you? Please?" Abby beseeched as she drifted into unconsciousness.

Abigail laid several white roses on her parents’ grave. She gave a watery smile.

"Willow and everyone are doing a great job, you know. But I still wish you guys were still here." she choked out. ‘Don’t cry.’ she scolded herself.

She gently traced the headstone and repeated it softly to herself.

‘ Buffy Summers-McCrick January 18th, 1981-April 1st, 2006
Angelus McCrick March 21st, 1979-April 1st, 2014
In love for eternity
They were wonderful and will be terribly missed ’

"‘In love for eternity’. That’s for sure." she smirked. Abby glazed sadly at the huge angel that stood on top of the inscription.

Spike watched the young girl from the shadows. He hadn’t been here in four years, since that fateful night. He was now the most feared vampire in the world. For killing three slayers and his sire. His mind screamed at him to turn and ruaway. He growled in frustration. Why would a little girl want to make him run away?

"Bring her to me." Spike beckoned his minions. Two nervously nodded and headed off.

Abigail sensed the vampires even before their approach. She carefully turned around and acted surprised when two vampires grabbed her wrists and held her still.

"Well, well, well, it looks as though I might ‘ave a little fun tongiht." Spike snickered as he emerged from the shadows. As soon as he got close enough, he stopped dead. Abby clenched her jaw and swallowed a nasty remark.

"Oh bloody hell! It’s the Slayer’s babe!" He cursed. Abby pretended to be shocked.

"Who-o? W-what am I?" she quivered. Spike eyed her. She looked a hell like the Slayer and his prick of a sire.

"Never mind. You are my dinner, now don’t you worry your pretty little head about it!"

"I’m your what? W-what are you going to do to me?" she asked trying to pull away from the vampires.

"If you must know, I’m going to kill you." he replied simply. Abby grabbed the vampires by their throats and bashed their heads together. She dropped in her fighting stance.

"I was just gunna say the same thing!" she exclaimed. Spike growled and lunged. She spun around and slammed his head into her parent’s grave stone. Spike flipped around, but before he could attack, Abby pinned him against the head stone with a stake pressed into his chest.

"Not fast enough, luv." he said head-butting her. She stumbled, but didn’t lose her stake.

"So it is the Slayer’s kid, eh? So I’m guessin’ that that wanker Angelus is your Daddy?" Spike jeered. Abby growled and snap kicked his face. Spike back-handed her, but was blocked. She punched him in the stomach and gave him a fierce jab to the jaw. Spike lurched forward and tackled her to the ground. Her stake flew out of her hand. He bolted her arms and legs to her sides. Spike grasped her throat in a tight grip. He smirked as he waited for her to turn blue.

"I think blue will be a wonderful color on you, don’t ya think?"

"It never really went with my complexion." she snickered and sank her fangs into his hand. Spike grunted and rolled away.

"You’re a vampire! Bugger!" he muttered. Abby charged at him, smashing him against a tree. She pulled another stake from her coat.

"Ever face a full Slayer, half vampire?" she snarled slipping into her game face. Spike growled deep in his chest.

"I’m gunna torture you until you beg for me to throw you into the sunlight." she hissed.

"A normal slayer would just stake me." Spike mumbled. Abby pressed the stake closer to his heart.

"A normal slayer didn’t have her parents brutally murdered."

"Good point. But it was so much fun watching them burn." he sniggered. Abby roared and shoved the stake a third of an inch from his heart. Spike screamed. He now knew why he wanted to run away.

She threw him to the ground and ripped the stake from his chest. Spike howled. Abby started to pummel his face in.

"Abby!" someone yelled. Abby looked over her shoulder.

"Willow, get out of here!" she growled though her clamped fangs.

"No!" she said running up to her. Willow grimaced at the sight of the beaten Spike.

"Do you think your parents want you to do this? Do you? No, they would want you to stake him and move on." Willow pleaded. Abby stood up.

"He ruined my life! He hurt me in everyway possible! Why shouldn’t I torture him?" Abby demanded. Willow sighed.

"He’s not worth it. He never was. Do what your parents would want you to do." Willow suggested. Abby looked down at the writhing Spike. He gave her a little smile.

"Yeah, slayer, do what’s in you ‘eart. Before I rip it out and eat it as an April Fools dinner." Spike scoffed. Abby glared at him. She grabbed the stake from the ground and stood over Spike.

"April Fools." A quick flick and he was gone. Willow embraced her. Abby weeped onto her shoulder. Willow stroked her hair and gently lead her out of the graveyard, whispering

"He can’t hurt you, sweetie, not anymore."

Author’s note: On Angelus’ gravestone I put a reasonable year, because I don’t think they would actually put the year he was born.
