Part One
Angel figited nervously as he waited in the lobby of Motown Records. He had finally decided that since he had gotten his humanity back, he would try and achieve one of his dreams. To become a singer. He had brought a tape with him that had him singing a song he had written on it and had handed it over to the CEO of Motown over a half hour before.
He was about to get up and start pacing when the receptionist looked up at him and smiled. "It's okay, hun. They take this long if not longer with everyone who comes here wanting to be a star." Angel looked up at her and returned the smile. "Any words of wisdom that'll calm nerves?" She looked down at her desk. "Well, I can tell you right now that Mr. Dupuis is on his way down here." "How do you know?" She giggled. "Security camera."
Just then the elevator opened and John Dupuis, CEO of Motown Records, stepped out. He looked over at Angel as Angel stood up and waited for him to approach him. When John walked up to Angel, Angel was at least seven or eight inches taller than he was. John smiled as he held out his hand. "Angel O'Conner? I'm John Dupuis." Angel took his hand and shook it. "Pleased to meet you Mr. Dupuis." John chuckled. "No, I'm pleased to meet YOU. You're song is amazing and your talent is aw-inspiring. I'd like you to come up to my office for a few minutes."
John turned around and headed back to the elevator. Angel looked at the receptionist. She smiled and held up her hand, in which her fingers were crossed. He smiled back at her and crossed his fingers at her as well. He turned back to John and stepped into the elevator.
ONE HOUR LATER
Trish was quietly filing her fingernails when the elevator opened and Angel bounded out of it with a loud, "YES!!!!" She looked up at him and giggled as he ran over to her. "I DID IT I DID IT!!! I GOT A RECORDING CONTRACT!!!!"
Trish started screaming with him and hurried from around her desk to embrace him. He picked up her petite 5'1 body and twirled her around. She only laughed harder. "Congradulations!!! What am I supposed to call you now?" He set her back down on her own feet and smiled at her. "Angel." She smiled. "Well, Angel, since you're a big star now, promise me a front row ticket and a backstage pass to your first show?" "Promise."
LATER THAT DAY
"I can't believe I did it!!!" Buffy squealed. Willow and Xander couldn't help but feel her excitement. She had just recieved a recording contract from Motown Records. She had decided to become a singer after Angel had caught her singing while drying her hair. He told her that she should start singing professionally, but she never really payed any attention to his urgings until now.
Trish looked on with a kind smile on her face. The young blonde woman jumping up and down with her friends in front of her desk held just as much excitment as Angel had earlier that afternoon. She sighed. Two beautiful people, who had two promising carrers. Both in one day. She smiled inwardly. That was a record.
Willow looked at Buffy with large eyes. "So, what are you going to do first? Are you gonna tell Angel?" That name caught Trish's interest. "Nah. I'll let el Brooding Boy find out on his own." "Woah, Buffster gone go calling her honey names now huh? I thought I was the only one who could call Dead-Boy names." Xander chirped. "EX-honey, Xander. And please don't call him Dead-Boy anymore."
Trish couldn't help but tell Buffy what she knew about Angel. "Excuse me, Ms. Summers? You wouldn't happen to be talking about Angel O'Connor would you?"
All three of them looked up at her. "I think that's what he told me his last name was. How do you know Angel?" Buffy asked. "Well, he was here earlier. He had an audition with Mr. Dupuis about a recording contract." Willow and Xander looked at each other in shock while Buffy's whole attention was on Trish. "Why would Angel want to be a singer? He told me he can't sing." "Well apparently he can. Cause Mr. Dupuis signed him an hour and a half after Angel walked in the door."
Buffy stood in shock for a minute. Then she recovered and said, "If you talk to him again, don't tell him anything about me." "Why not?" "Just please, don't. All right?" Trish relutantly nodded her head in agreement. Buffy gave her a half hearted smile in return. "Thank you." She turned to her friends. "Come on guys. Let's go." And with that, they walked out the door.
3 WEEKS LATER
Buffy listened intently as the radio announcer got down to the number one song in the country. She had heard her song, "Unchained Melody" on the radio before, but this was the first week that she dared to hope that she might be number one. "All right. Now we're up to the number 2 song in the country. This comes from a newcomer in the buisness. Just signed the contract three weeks ago. So here she is, Sarah Summers, with "Unchained Melody." " As her song started to play, Buffy started shrieking. She couldn't believe it!!! Only three weeks after she had signed her contract with Motown, she was at number two!!!
But she wasn't the only one listening. In his apartment in LA, Angel was listening to the radio too. He hadn't heard his song yet and they were up to number two. He might be number one! It barely registered in his mind when the announcer started talking about the person who was at number two. He had heard that this girl was a newcomer in the business just like he was and listened quietly while the song played.
Oh my love. My darling. I've hungered for, your touch. A long, lonely time. As time goes by, so slowly. And time, can do so much. Are you, still mine?
Angel dropped the mug of coffee he was holding when he heard the song start. The mug hit the floor and shattered as he realized he knew the girl who was singing. He also knew that her name wasn't Sarah Summers. It was Buffy Summers. As he recovered from the shock, "Sarah" Summers kept singing.
I need your love. I need your love. God speed your love, to me. Lonely rivers flow, to the sea, to the sea. To the open arms, of the sea. Lonely rivers sigh, 'Wait for me, wait for me. I'll be coming home, wait for me.' Oh my love, my darling. I've hungered for, your touch. A long, lonely time. And I know, that time goes by, so slowly. And time, can do so much. Are you, still mine? I need your love, I need your love. God speed your love. To me."
The song ended and while Buffy was busy crying with joy, Angel fell to the floor and landed hard on his behind. He couldn't believe it. She had actually listened to him and gone out and started to sing professionally. "I wonder if she know's what I've done." He thought to himself. He turned his attention to cleaning up the broken mug while Buffy and her mother sat on her bed laughing and crying.
The radio station had gone to a commercial break so Angel hadn't heard who was at number one yet. He heard a knock on his door. Confused, he went to answer it. "Trish!? What are you doing here!?" The receptionist for Motown looked up at him and blushed. "I was just in the neighborhood and thought I would stop by." He smiled. "Well, come in." He stood back and waited for her to enter. Slowly, she walked in and looked around. "You have a nice place." She commented, eyeing the delicate ivory statues that sat in glass cases. He shrugged. "It's not much, believe me, but at least it's home." "She has no idea how wrong I am about that. Home is in Sunnydale holding Buffy in my arms." Angel thought sadly.
But what he didn't know was that his sadness showed on his face. "What's wrong?" Trish asked. He looked at her. "Nothing! Why?" He answered a little to quickly. "You just seem so sad." Before he could answer, the radio came back from commercial. Both of them turned their attention to it. "We're now at the number one song in the country and it seems that newcomers are taking over the airwaves. This guy signed his contract three weeks ago as did our number two artist, Sarah Summers. So here he is, Angel, with "I Do (Cherish You)" "
Trish and Angel locked eyes and instantly started shrieking. He was at number one!!! Three weeks after singing his contract, he was at number one!!! While they were celebrating, Buffy sat quietly in her room, alone. She had turned off her radio. She knew who was at number one, but she didn't want to hear his voice again. It would be too painful.
All I am, all I'll be, everything in this world. All that I'll ever be, is in your eyes, shining at me. When you smile I can feel, all my passion unfolding. Your hand brushed mine, and a thousand sensations, seduce me cause I. I do. Cherish you. For the rest of my life. You don't have to think twice. I will, love you still."
Buffy had left her house and was walking near the park. There was a couple dancing to the music coming out of a radio. It was Angel that was singing. She stood there for a moment, not believing that she was hearing his voice again.
From the depths of my soul, it's beyond my control. I've waited so long, to say this to you. If you're asking do I love you this much, I do.
Buffy sat down on a bench near the couple and watched them dance to Angel's song. They seemed like they were so in love. The man held the woman possesively, yet gently, as if the woman was made of glass. Just the way Angel used to hold her.
In my world, before you, I lived outside my emotions. Didn't know where I was going till that day, I found you. How you opened my life. To a new paradise. In a world torn by change. Still with all my heart, and till my dying day I do, cherish you. For the rest of my life. You don't have to think twice. I will, love you still. From the depths of my soul. It's beyond my control.
I've waited so long, to say this to you. If you're asking do I love you this much, I do. Oh, I, I do.
The couple stopped dancing and kissed. Buffy fought back tears as she watched them. They were exactly like what she and Angel were. Gone were the days where they would share a kiss through her window. When they would patrol hand in hand, neither really paying attention to anything except the other. Or when she would be walking home from the Bronze with Xander and Willow, and he would pull her into an alley to steal a long, passionate kiss. Or the quiet time they shared in the mansion, lying on his bed covered in a blanket. Neither talking, only paying attention to their fingers which twined and untwined together while Buffy would have her head on his shoulder, looking at their hands through half shut eyes. And when he would discover she was sleepy, he would wrap an arm around her shoulder, bring her closer to him so he could stroke her back with his strong fingers until she fell asleep. Then he would keep watch over her the rest of the night.
She made it home and up to her room before she broke down and started to cry. It all seemed so unfair. Everyone else was happy and in love, but she and Angel were doomed to remain apart.
