Graduation was long over. The mayor had been stopped. The world had once again been saved. But Buffy's heart hadn't been saved. It had been broken into a thousand pieces when Angel had left almost a year ago. She had moved out of her mother's house and gotten a place of her own.

She usually spent the nights in her apartment, but she had been invited to a party, and was getting ready to leave when Giles had called her and told her to go out on patrol before she went to the party. So, dressed in black cotton mini-skirt and a cream-colored satin shirt, Buffy went hunting for vamps in the cemetary.

She sensed that some were near. "Come out come out where ever you are." She sing-songed. She really hadn't meant them to. Especially not 15 of them. They had surrounded her. She had to get away from them before things turned ugly. And run she did. She ran right into one of the vampires, stake already out and the vamp fell to the ground in a cloud of dust. She ran as fast as her legs could carry her and the vamps gave chase.

She didn't know where she was running to until she found herself at the front door to the mansion. Not caring about her feelings at that time, she quickly opened the door, ran inside, and slammed it shut into the face of the first vamp. After locking it, she realized that she would have to stay here for the night since she knew those vamps weren't going anywhere until sunrise.

She looked around and shivered. The mansion had always been cold, but Angel's presense in it seemed to give it warmth. There was no warmth in it now. It was just a cold, empty, stone building in which she had to spend the night.

"I feel the blues comin on. Cause I feel you being gone. It's somethin I wish I could lose. Baby's gone blues. There ain't no sunshine in sight, cause you're gonna leave me tonight. My heart is sure feelin brusied. Baby's gone blues."

Buffy slowly walked to where she knew Angel's bedroom was. The waterbed was neatly made and the dark satin sheets were covered with a simple white sheet. She looked into the closet and found that it was bare. Looking in the drawers on the waterbed, she found one of his silk shirts. It was dark navy blue. She clutched it to her.

"Oh. Love has gone wrong. It's so hard on my heart, going from good into gone. There ain't no easy way back, into nights before you. Baby's gone blues. Baby's gone blues."

She left the bedroom and headed to the small courtyard. An image of Angel doing Thi Chi meditations appeared before her. He had looked so handsome that night without his shirt and dressed in only pants. She wanted the memory to last forever, but when Angel's dark chocolate eyes locked with hers when she had got caught watching him, he dissappeared.

"It's like a razor on me. Knowing you wanna be free. I'm standing here feelin used. Baby's gone blues. There aint no dreams comin true. I won't recover from you."

Buffy slowly sank to the ground. She pulled her knees up to her chest and rocked back and forth, tears starting to fall.

"There aint no heartache like you. Baby's gone blues. Oh. Love has gone wrong. It's so hard on my heart, going from good into gone. There aint no easy way back, into nights before you. Baby's gone blues. Baby's gone blues. Baby's gone blues."

Slowly, she made her way back to the living room. She stretched out on the sofa that was covered with a plain white sheet. It was like all of the furniture in the house now. All covered with white sheets to keep dust off of the objects. Settling down into a comfortable position, she cuddled the shirt closer to her as she closed her eyes.

She hadn't sensed that someone else was in the mansion with her. If it had been a vampire, they would have found her an easy meal. But, it was Xander. He was talking to Cordelia who had been tailing Angel in LA and he had been tailing Buffy. "You're right Cordy. We need to find a way to get them back together. Buffy's dying inside. It's gonna kill her if we don't do something soon."

On to "Masquerade"
