When you think of Wonder Woman, one name should automatically pop into your mind .... Lynda Carter. For many years, she entertained us as the Goddess from Paradise Island, so it was only natural that I pay tribute to her in this plastic form. When I started this project, I had very little reference materials and the picture below (with the half smile) was the best one available.
I decided to go with that look, but rushed the head sculpt to pursue the Erin Gray project ... which wasn't all that successful. Shortly before completing the first Lynda head sculpt, I found a great Wonder Woman page with tons of photos of Lynda. Looking at the pletra of Lynda photos, it's interesting to note how much her face has changed even from the first season to the second. Again, this creates a big challenge from a sculpting standpoint since you have to have similar facial features with similar expressions from different angles/ viewpoints to accurately capture a person's likeness.
I ended up doing a second Lynda head sculpt. The main differences are the thinner/ slimmer cheekbones as well as the elimination of the facial muscles that go into that half smile. These are cheesy scans from a flatbed scanner so it'll be hard to see the differences. It looks like Lynda from certain angles but not exactly .... being bald doesn't help either :-). Part of the problem is that she wears a lot of eyeshadow and makeup on the show and this affects how the eyes and face looks.
I've contemplated sculpting a third and final Lynda with the correct eyeshadow, but that was before I saw Entrapment. After seeing Catherine Zeta Jones, I think it might have found a more contemporary replacement for role of WW. In many minds (as well as mine), Lynda will be the one and only WW, but Catherine might not be a bad choice for the WW of 2000.
No, these are not sculpt of Shinad O'Connor :-). These's preliminary sculpts of Lynda Carter. The heads will look more like Lynda once I've added the hair and tiara. In the mean time, you'll just have to either trust me or use your imagination.
