TALES FROM THE ROAD OF LIFE

Traveling Against the Wind

The stories on this site were written by Robert B. Tant, Jr., (Bud) while incarcerated in the Arkansas Department of Correction, serving a Life Sentence for a bank robbery and shooting at the police before they arrested him. He died of hepatitis B and C on March 14, 1999 due to medical neglect, combined with physical abuse by the Arkansas Department of Correction staff and their contracted medical provider, Correctional Medical Services

RUN FOOL RUN

1968

A clown with a thousand faces --
None of them his own ...
A Masked Marvel to the masses --
Will he ever be known?

A careless walk, an easy laugh --
Tools of his trade ...
His sparkling eyes are camouflage --
He's afraid ...

His tongue is quick, his wit is keen --
But look close -- there's fear to be seen ...
He runs with his fragile world, avoiding fatality --
Fear speeds him onward in his endless flight from reality.

He's tired now, he wants to rest --
He's tired of all those lies...
But a man with a thousand faces --
Can rest not 'til he dies...

BALLAD OF A SHOOTING STAR

1986

I met her in the Springtime
On a clear, soft desert night
As I streaked across the universe
In my desperate, lonely flight.
Now, I liked her when I met her
'N and I loved her when I could,
Then I laughed and said "forget me,
for you see, I'm just no good."

Oh, shooting stars and long fast cars
Never slow down for long,
So look up, all you Dreamers,
'Cause you know they'll soon be gone.

I stole dreams for folks in need
Of a friendly, helping hand,
Spread Hope among the Hopeless
All across this heartless land
Then our souls merged on the highway
And our hearts became as one
We lived our Dream in our way
Pushing Coke and pulling guns.

Oh, shooting stars and long, fast cars
Never stay 'round long
So look up, all you Dreamers,
'Cause you know they'll soon be gone.

We chased rainbows across this country
But bullets were all we caught
When on that cold December morning
We were busted in Arkansas.
So this song's for you, Sweet Lorrie,
Though I'm singing it from my cell
And I'll sing it on that hell-bound train
That'll carry my soul to hell.

Oh, shooting stars and long, fast cars
Never stay down for long
So look up, all you Dreamers
'Cause you know they'll soon be gone.

FACTOR 8: THE ARKANSAS PRISON BLOOD SCANDAL

Kelly Duda and Concrete Films have produced a documentary which details the corruption and greed that led the Arkansas Department of Correction to spread death from Arkansas prisons to the entire world. Hear the story from the mouths of those responsible for the harvesting of infected human blood plasma, and its sale to be made into medicines.

Duda's award-winning film unflinchingly documents the whole story the U.S. government and the state of Arkansas have tried to keep hidden from the world.
