Comicbook Influence

During junior high and early high school I was really into comicbooks. The Xmen and Spiderman were my favorites. I think at one point I had nine subscriptions going. Sometimes I would try and draw comic characters and sometimes I would try to create my own.

The US Mutant Force was my own counterpart to the Xmen in junior high. I drew the picture with Spiderman, Venom and Carnage around the same time. I included those two pictures because they were probably the two best I did in junior high.

The picture of Spiderman getting stabbed with the big sword was done my freshman year of high school. It was an attempt to combine a character I made up with an established comicbook character. Most of the pictures I drew my freshman year were just as gory.

The man in the long coat with the big guns was a character I named Warren Warfield. I envisioned him to be sort of a cross between Magnum PI and one of the Xmen. I drew a lot of pictures of Warfield my freshman and sophomore years but this was the one I liked best.

I sketched the monster coming down the hall my junior year of high school. The man against the wall is some kind of a ninja making his way through a dungeon. About this time period I started cutting back on the time I spent drawing. I no longer dreamed about being a comicbook artist. Ironically, I am probably good enough to be a comicbook artist now, I just don't have the desire anymore.

The last picture, of Bundesdame, was done much later. I came up with the idea for her while in the Air Force stationed in Germany. Bundesdame means National Lady in German. The colors of her uniform correspond to the colors of the German flag. She was basically the German equivalent of Captain America.
