The Competition

After I had left for the Air Force, my younger brother, Joe, started drawing more. To encourage his drawing and creativity I proposed a competition to him. I would create a character to go against one of his characters. He would mail me back with another character fighting the one I had sent him.

We managed eight sets of letters back and forth over the course of a year. I am showing you the ones I have drawn. I am not sure what I did with Joe's drawings. I threw a lot of stuff away after my divorce, most likely they were accidently thrown out.

To start the competition I used some characters my brother and I had come up with while I was in high school, Darthmage and EKO. EKO was Joe's creation. EKO stood for Electric Knockout, a streetfighter that controlled electicity.

Joe responded with a later version of EKO to defeat Darthmage. I came up with Rosewire to defeat his second EKO. Rosewire was a lady with the ability to control a special thorned, metal vine with her mind. She used the vine to choke EKO out.

Joe went on to create Scott Grain, Shin Lu, Wild Angel, Wolf Man, and Scream. I created Salvo, Thirteenth Candle, Creeping Death, Burning Knight, Weatherlow, and Live Oak. Since the drawings shown here are mine, my characters are the ones with the advantage througout the drawings.
