Appearance: Laura is a woman in her early thirties, but looks much older. Years of battling lycanthropes have left her physically and emotionally scarred. At one time, she was a peach of a young woman, but now she carries herself like an avenging ghost. Her thin-lipped and freckled face is criss-crossed with scars, as is the rest of her body. Her blue eyes burn with an intense, cold fire. Laura has the build of an athlete, and is quite tall for a human female. She normally dresses like a Verbrekan man, in shirt, breeches, boots and heavy wool cloak. She keeps her long chestnut hair out of sight under a broad, ragged hat.

Background: Born in the hamlet of Ludlow in Verbrek, Laura Graibley's parents were killed by werewolves when she was very young. Laura was raised with her little brother Owen by their aunt Violet, a cold and domineering woman. When Laura was eighteen, Owen was murdered by yet another of Verbrek's werewolves. Laura's mind snapped; she turned her back on her home and resolved to become an enemy of werewolves everywhere.

In the years since, Laura has honed her physical skills to near perfection, and transformed from a frightened little girl into a ruthless killing machine. She has dispatched literally dozens of werewolves in her travels. Her keen senses always seem to point her towards werewolf trouble, and many towns terrorized by lycanthrope activity have been saved by Laura's sudden and violent appearance. This has given her a mixed reputation as both an angelic savior and unholy berserker-woman.

Roleplaying Notes: Laura's name is known throughout most of the Core—particularly in lands where werewolves hunt. Many werewolves are wary of her fearlessness and ferocity, but just as many are eager to feast on the woman's steaming carcass. Despite the numerous battles she has had with werewolves, Laura has never contracted lycanthropy. Nevertheless, Laura knows that her life's path may one day lead to her becoming that which she hates most. She keeps a special silver dagger—etched with the name of her brother—just for this eventuality.

Laura is not a nice person. She is obviously a woman with a lot of rage and pain, and her social skills have been hampered by years of cold solitude. She is surly and suspicious with everyone, caring for almost nothing except the wholesale slaughter of werewolves. Laura has encountered and destroyed a handful of other lycanthrope phenotypes, although her greatest hatred will always be for werewolves. Though she is of average intelligence, Laura possesses great cunning, particularly when hunting her chosen prey.

Laura should not be a lycanthrope-dispatching bodyguard for the PC's. Her demons are her own to shoulder, and she will not join a party, even one that deliberately hunts lycanthropes. She may cooperate in an isolated werewolf hunt, especially if it apparent that the PC's have selfish motivations. Laura relishes beating "mercenary-types" to the kill. She is best utilized as a mystery figure, a dark hunter who seems to turn up wherever the stench of lycanthropes arises.
