The Goddess of the Dark
You see her from afar
you think nothing of it
at first, then you hear
a soft, irresistible whisper.
You turn and look at her
she
is a creation of
loveliness and grace.
She is dressed in a
dress of blackest coal
with
red throughout it
Upon her head you
see a hat of finest
silk. Her clothes seem
to stand
out in the
lightless street.
You walk towards her
Your limbs no longer
responding
to your
own wishes. As you
come closer you notice
the sculptured beauty
She whispers
your name
How she came by it you do
not know. Your eyes focus
on her mouth as she forms
your name over and over.
You ask her name and she
merely walks and beckons
you to follow
her. You do
not wish to lose sight of her
so you follow.
You follow her into the
shadows
of a quiet wood.
Suddenly she stops and
turns to you and smiles.
You ask her name yet
again and the melodic
tones of her laughter
float over the night air.
moment if not less.
You see the faintest
lights of dawn in the
sky. You look to
her
again, but, to your
shock, she has gone.
You look and look
for her. Each night
you go back to that
same spot and wait
for her. You never
again see her face.
Over
the years, you
swear to yourself
that you see a bit of
her dress of the shape
of her
hat in the
moonlight. The one
thing you are sure of
is that each night, you
hear the
hauntingly
beautiful sound of her
laughter drifting over
the still night air.
