The Quartz group is made up of a variety of different crystals
and is one of the most commonly occuring minerals in the
earth's crust. There is clear quartz (or rock crystal),
Amethyst, Citrine, Milky quartz, rose quartz, smoky
quartz, tiger eye, cat's eye, agate, chalcedony, jasper,
and opal which make up this extensive group of crystals.
Amethyst is probably the most highly prized form of
quartz, and can be any hue from light violet to deep
purple. Amethyst is thought to have the power to transmit
calmness, hence the name often referred to as 'the peace
as well as curing insomnia, and acting as a protective
stone also.
Citrine's distinctive colour varies from pure yellow to
dull yellow, honey or brownish yellow. Naturally occuring
citrine today is rare and in fact most citrine sold today
is amethyst hich has been heat-treated to change its
colour. Capturing the essence of the sun in its bold
colours, citrine is the stone of joy. The energy levels
of citrine are warm and uplifting and enables one to
develop clear lines of thought and is also reputed to
help the body rid itself of physical and emotional
problems.
Ametrine is bicoloured amethyst and citrine,
both in the one crystal. (as shown below)
