Black Flowers, part 5

By: Mystic Redfern

Inside of the club, Adrian saw the person whom he was looking for immediately. She was standing alone in a corner looking his way with a smile slowly spreading across her face. She had golden hair and cornflower colored blue eyes. She wore a simple but elegant tan tunic and suede matching knee length boots. The small almost non-noticeable black dahlia pendant on a silver chain bracelet was the only jewelry she wore. Adrian walked calmly over to the corner where she stood.

"Need help warding off psychics for a girl you changed eh?" she asked warmly.

He smiled and nodded slowly, looking at the cement floor of the club. He saw out of the corner of his eye a slight, what looked to be scorch mark near a booth to his right. Adrian was almost completely sure it was from when Frost had used her witch powers to defend herself from him. He forced himself to take is eyes from the mark and to look up at Aria.

"So can you help me?" he asked with a hint of worry in his voice.

Aria smiled again and in turn looked at the ground and said, "I'll try."

Frost sat in a circle with the other witches that she had met the day before. She was not truly paying attention to the spell being calmly recited by Maeve, but instead thinking about her dream with worry. She felt Circe nudge her arm gently and quickly lost her current train of thought and looked up dazedly.

"Huh?" she whispered as she slowly came back to earth.

"Do you even know what's going on?" she said with a nearly hidden edge to her voice.

Frost shook her head in disgrace. Circe spoke.

"Well if you don't, you'll never learn about your Harman heritage."

Frost sighed and looked up at Maeve who was sprinkling some sort of sand mixture around the outside of the circle. She had stopped speaking at the moment and looked as if she was creating the atmosphere for a strong spell or maybe even a seance, Frost thought. Finally Maeve spoke. Frost listened as attentively as she could for she was still trying to keep the distraction of her dream and Adrian out of her mind. Maeve told the story of Maya and Hellawise. Afterwards each of the witches tried to add on any more knowledge of the Harmans or any other parts of her heritage. They next taught her how to use the purple fire that she had used against Adrian in the Black Iris and how to cast wards and other useful information. Finally they cleared up most of her questions about the Night World and the Circles that she may join if she wished to.

Frost's head felt heavy with new knowledge, and yet as a whole she felt somehow lighter, now that she knew about her heritage and how to use it.

Maeve began to speak aloud in the center of the circle again. "The other reason we have gathered in my home in such a sacred circle is that it has come to my knowledge that the 4th wild power has been discovered. He is a shapeshifter. We are here tonight to find his location. With all of our psychic powers we have a strong enough force to do it," she said proudly. "Now let us be-"

Frost cut her off. She had accidentally fallen asleep because of the stress of everything that had happened to her lately. She was screaming.

Frost was dreaming. She was once again in the mist, lost. But this time the sense of someone following her, watching her, hunting her was so much stronger. She pivoted on the ball of her foot, she had heard a slight movement from behind her. Frost saw a distorted image of a man with what she could just barely make out to be a knife. The image cleared slightly where his hand grasped the lethal weapon tightly. It was a wooden knife, with a steel handle. He had been moving closer towards her, but she hadn't subconsciously noticed it. Frost realized he had been hypnotizing her to focus on the knife so he could edge his way up to her. Frost at that moment knew he wanted to kill her. To kill me or hurt me if I don't cooperate she thought suddenly. Frost broke into a run. She was fast. But the man was so much faster. She looked back behind her quickly as she ran and saw his features which were still distorted, but not as much as before. He had orange hair like fire and black eyes. She then realized that when she had looked over her shoulder to look at him, the oddity of his physical self had stopped her in her path. Frost screamed as he neared her. She was frozen in place. And then she felt herself fall to the ground. As she screamed, she vaguely felt the sensation of falling like in the last dream.

Frost awoke abruptly.
People, she thought, so many people around me. Faces of females were surrounding her and looking stricken with worry. She slowly sat up and blinked slowly to wake herself up further. She noticed Circe standing off to the side, explaining something to Maeve. Frost felt too dizzy to stand up. She was feeling a little better when the witches brought her to her room and began to question her.

Aria sat in a booth across from Adrian with a crystal in her palms. She was looking off into the distance and was mouthing words silently. Her hands were playing carefully with the blue translucent crystal. Finally, she stood abruptly and looked Adrian in the eye. He gave her a questioning glance. She spoke softly.

"Well, I saw about 5 people, witches. One was the leader. He had orange hair and black eyes. His name was......Rutger and he is a powerful warlock. I can't stop them. Someone would have to do it in person. They're pretty strong. And," she said for once smiling wickedly, "they are located in the abandoned warehouse on 53rd St." Aria said proudly. "Oh yeah and there are a couple of werewolves outside the entrance and some shifters that roam around the neighborhood at night."

Adrian was dumbfounded. He hadn't known what to expect, just that she could probably tell them what they looked like perhaps. He nodded gruffly, regaining his tough guy physique.

"Thanks," he said with feeling for a moment, and looked into her eyes so she knew he meant it.

Aria smiled warmly and gave a little wave of her hand to mean for him to get out and find those witches and get em'. Adrian turned and left the Black Iris and got on his new Harley Davidson and sped off with a roar towards 53rd St.
