Such a waste, he thought, that so many mortals are so close, yet so far. The blood pulsating just beneath their skin...so fresh, so...delicious... The warbling of his caller line caught his attention and cut off his reverie. LaCroix's silky voice gave his warmest greeting, which for LaCroix was quite chilly, "You've reached Nightwatch, caller, what can I do for you?" The voice on the other end was female and seemed rather afraid, yet determined. "I...I would like to make a request." "Hmm," LaCroix mused. This was certainly unusual. "What might you be requesting...I may have it here somewhere..." "'Somewhere, Someday, by Jennifer Paige." LaCroix searched through his cd rack at "P" but didn't find anything. He was about to tell the caller he didn't have it when a package on his desk caught his eye. The voice on the other end said, "I had it delivered today. You should've gotten it earlier this evening." LaCroix stared at the package as if it were some alien creature. He had not even noticed it before. He must be slipping. He tore open the package with a slight smirk on his face. This caller was getting more and more interesting. He spun the cd up to track 10. "There you are caller, and who do you wish to dedicate this to?" The voice on the other end giggled then said, "You, my love." Then, . LaCroix smiled an amused grin as he hit the button. Definately an intriguing caller. He'd have to check his caller ID tonight. "When clouds above you start to pour And all of your doubts rage like a storm And you don't know who you are anymore Let me help you find what you've been searching for" LaCroix smiled. He definately must look this caller up and take her up on her offer. "Somewhere there's a field and a river You can let your soul run free Someday let me be the giver Let me bring you peace Somewhere there's a break in the weather Where your heart and spirit go free Someday it'll be for the better Let me bring you peace" The words to the song still ringing in his ears, LaCroix searched under his desk for the small caller ID box he hid there. He found it, upside down and mangled in the microphone wire. He carefully disengaged it and turned it over. The number read: 555-1079. It was the number of the Raven. She was here. "Let me bring you joy, let me bring you peace Take the tears that you cry, trust them to me Let me give you heart and give you hope Be the one constant love that you've never known" As the song ended, the door to the soundbooth closed quietly. LaCroix scanned the crowd. At the bar, Vachon was talking to a blond woman. LaCroix was sure she was the mysterious caller. He approached them slowly. At the sight of LaCroix, Vachon ducked away. Smiling, Tracy turned around on her bar stool to come face to face with LaCroix. He expected her to shriek. He expected her to yell. He at least expected her to get scared, after all, a mortal woman was no match for LaCroix. Instead, she slowly took in everything about him, starting with his black italian loafers, to his black armani suit, to his passion filled face. He could hear her heartbeat clearly in his ears. She smiled and arched her neck to him. This was too much for LaCroix. He closed his eyes to get a grip on his beast, after all, he couldn't very well take her in front of all these customers. He shivered as he felt her breath on his cheek. She nuzzeled his neck and kissed it once. LaCroix's eyes opened uncontrollably, glowing golden. Luckly, no one saw since he faced the bar. He closed them quickly and felt her kiss him again. He let out a slight growl and Tracy could see his fangs for a brief instant. She took a deep breath, willing herself not to shake. "Let me give you heart, and give you hope...Be the one constandt love that you've never known," She whispered. He smiled and nodded with closed eyes. She took his hand and led him, blind and totally trusting her, up to his rooms. ------------------ Well, okay, I don't claim perfection. "So what happened?" Well, she became a permanant resident of the night shift, of course. ------------------ Hugs and Guns!
