The Sister

By Jessie

Chapter 1

Hi, my name is Jessie.  I can't tell you anything else about me.  You'll just have to trust me.  You know everything you need to know already so I won't bother explaining.  Colleen's a controller.  Theresa's mad at me.  And Sara is, well, Sara.  And that's all you need to know for now.
It had been a few days since Colleen had joined our team, and guess what.  She was so scared that she didn't even want to go back down to the yeerk pool.  Which was OK with me.  I mean, if she goes, she stays a controller.  Other wise the yeerk would die.  For some crazy reason I didn't know whether I was happy about that or not.  It was like I felt sorry for the yeerk.  See, I told you it was crazy.
The phone rang, so I went over and answered it.
"Hello" I said.
"Hi, it's me, Colleen.  I was wondering if you wanted to go to the mall with me?"
"OK."
" 'k I'll meet you there."
"All right.  See you there."  We both hung up.  I didn't see the point in riding my bike there so I teleported.  I should have gotten there before Colleen, but when I got there, she was waiting for me.
"Where were you?  I've been waiting for half hour!" she complained.
"But, that's impossible!  I teleported right after I got your call!" I said.  There was something very strange going on.  She couldn't have been waiting that long.  And was she still a controller?
"Well, come on.  Let's shop a while," she said.
"OK," I answered.
"I know, lets go in Rave.  They're having a big sale today."  So we did.
"Oh, look at this dress!  And it's only ten dollars!  I'm going to try it on!"  She exclaimed.  So we went in the dressing room.
"Close your eyes" she said.  So I did.  And let me tell you something.  You know that favorite expression I have?  The one that starts with a B and ends with an E.  Well, closing my eyes was a:
BIG MISTAKE!

Chapter 2

I heard a noise and suddenly Colleen pushed me.  Right through the entrance to the yeerk pool.  I fell down the stairs and right where the stairs ended was the yeerk pool!
"Ahhhhh!" I screamed.  And I fell straight in.
"Ahhhhh!"  I sat straight up in bed.  I looked down at myself, then at the clock.  7:00 AM.  It was just a dream.  But it felt so real.  Not like it was really happening to me.  Like I was two completely different people!  Like I was watching but I wasn't the one who the yeerks wanted.  They were after someone who looked like me but wasn't me.  I picked up the phone and called Theresa.
"Hello?"  She yawned.
"Hi, it's me Jessie.  Look I just had the strangest dream.  I think it was some kind of a message."
"That's nice.  Look we can talk later but right now I've gotta go back to sleep."  Then she hung up.  I went back to sleep and the next morning my mom got a phone call.  One that would change my life.  Forever!
"Jessie, guess what!  You're going to get a sister!  That was the adoption agency!" and when she said that, I almost fainted.
That afternoon I did faint.  Because that was when my new sister Susie came home.  I couldn't believe it.  She looked exactly like me.
"Hi, I'm Susie."------------------------------------------------------------
That was when I fainted.
"Jessie?  Jessie?  Jessie wake up!"  My mom said.  I woke up but I felt weird.  Really weird.
"Are you OK sis?"  Susie asked.
"Huh?  Oh, yeh, I'm OK.  Why?  Do I look like I'm not?  Because I am.  I'm definitely OK."
"Alright.  You don't need to keep telling me.  I believe you."
"Good."
"And I trust you, so I know your telling the truth."
"Good.  Then come with me."
"OK.  Where?  When?  Why? ------ Well?"
"Be quiet and come on!"
"Whe---"
"Just come on"

Chapter 3

"Look, I gotta warn you.  The yeerks are here."  I told Susie.
"The whats?"  She asked.
"The yeerks.  They're a race of parasitic slugs that take over people.  They wrap themselves around your brain and make you into a controller.  That's what we call someone with a yeerk inside their head.  The yeerks are Aliens.  And I can morph too.  I know I shouldn't be telling you that or anything for that matter.  But I trust you." I explained.
"You can what?" she asked.
"I can morph.  You know.  Change into animals.  Me and my friends fight the yeerks.  And last night I had a dream that I was turned into a controller but it wasn't me.  It was you."
< Hello?  I've been out here a long time now and I'm getting cold! >  Sara complained.  I went over to the window and let her in.
< Hi Jessie.  And?  Hi, Jessie? >  Sara said.
"Hi, I'm Susie.  Who are you?  What are you?  Why are you here?  Do you know Jess?  Are you her friend?  Why are you talking?  You are a hawk, right?  If you are then how can you talk?  Birds don't talk, do they?  Who are you any------"  Susie asked.
< Wait a minute.  Here's your answers: Sara, a girl, because I'm cold, yes, yes, because I'm a girl trapped in hawk morph, no I'm a girl, because I'm really a girl, no, Sara.  There does that answer your questions? > Sara answered.
"Huh?" Susie asked.
"Bye Sara,"  I urged.
< Who is she and what have you been telling her? >  Sara yelled.
"She's my sister.  And I told her everything." I answered.
< Are you crazy? >
"Maybe, but that dream I had last night was some sort of a message that something would happen to Susie," I answered.
< But are you crazy?  She could be a controller! >
"Maybe," I answered.  "Maybe."

Chapter 4

The next day at school I told Theresa that I had told my new sister everything.  She didn't take it as well as I had thought.
"Are you crazy!  You must be out of your mind!  You could get us all killed!  Or worse!"  She shouted.
"She's my sister OK!  I was warning her!  That dream I had the other night was---"
"Nothing!"  She interrupted."  It wasn't a warning!  It was a dream!  Nothing is going to happen!  Nothing!  First you go around spreading false information now you go around telling all our secrets!  That's it!  I've had it with you!  Either you shape up and learn to keep secrets or you out of the team!  For good!  And then I won't care if you go around getting yourself killed!"  Theresa shouted.
"Is there a problem girls?"  Miss O'Brien asked.
"No."  I answered.  I looked at Theresa madly and stuck my tounge out at her.
"Girls, I couldn't help but over-hear your conversation.  Now, since I happened to hear you friend can't keep secrets, why not have you both go to the principal's office and she can explain."  I'll tell you one thing , teachers know exactly the right times to get you in trouble.  Big trouble.
"Nice going,"  Theresa sneered.  I knew she wasn't a controller.  She was just jealous.  She thought that she wasn't my friend anymore, but she was.  I mean, just because all these new team members were coming along didn't mean that she wasn't my friend anymore.
Somehow I managed to make up a fake secret about having a club that was in a secret place that noone was supposed to know about.  It was lame, but it worked.  That afternoon, me and Susie went to the mall.  But when we got there, Colleen was waiting for us.
"Where were you?  I've been waiting for half hour!" she complained.
"But that's impossible!  You never told me to meet you here!"  I exclaimed.
"You mean you didn't get my message?"  She asked.
"What message?"  I asked.
"Oh, well I called you to let you know that there's a big sale in Rave.  You wanna come with me?"
"OK,"  I answered suspiciously.  Here's that word again.
BIG MISTAKE!
Chapter 5

We went into Rave and suddenly Colleen cried
"Look at this dress!  And it's only $10.20.  I'm gonna go try it on." We went in the dressing room with her.
"Close your eyes" she said.  So we did.
BIG MISTAKE!
Then I remembered the dream:
I teleported.  I should have gotten there before Colleen but when I got there she was waiting for me.
So I did. I heard a noise and suddenly Colleen pushed me.  Right through the entrance to the yeerk pool.  I fell down the stairs and right where the stairs ended was the yeerk pool!
"Ahhhhh!" I screamed.  And I fell straight in.
Well, that's almost exactly what happened.  I opened my eyes suddenly just as.
"Ahhhhh!"  We screamed as Colleen pushed us through the door.  I looked around for a way out.  There was a door to my right.  I opened it and climbed in.  Susie followed and so did Colleen.  We crawled through the passage but then Colleen stopped.
"Bye, bye Megamorphs!  And good riddance!"  Colleen sneered.  She pulled a rope and a door right in under Susie gave way.  The yeerk pool was right in under us.
"Ahhhhhhhhhh!"  She screamed.  I grabbed her hand and tried to pull her up but she was too heavy.  I lost my grip!
"SUSIE!"  I yelled.  But it was too late.

Chapter 6
"You!  This is all your fault, yeerk!  And now your gonna pay!" I yelled.  I concentrated on going S.H.  then once I was morphed I jumped through the open trap door, made a quick turn, and landed on my feet.
"You wanna join me jump!  Or are you chicken!" I yelled up to Colleen.  To my surprise she jumped.  Halfway down the yeerk got scared and bailed.  That was my cue.  I jumped up and caught her, turned, and landed on my feet.
"Come on!  Let's bail!" I told her.  So we did.  We ran and ran until we were far away from that creepy place.  I wasn't exactly happy when I said to Theresa: "I told you so."  My sister was a controller but I'd free her.  Maybe not today.  But I would someday.
I knew we were safe because before I let go something happened.  It was like we were one person.  Like she was my clone.  Like we were really twin sisters.  I don't know.  I can't explain it, all I know is that we really were related.
"Hi, Susie," I said.
"Hi," she replied.  It was the next morning.  So far noone had noticed that Susie was acting different.  Then again, only I knew what was normal for Susie.  To me, she had changed a whole lot.  Even if I wouldn't have known she was a controller I would have noticed.  But she seemed even more different than usual.  I made up my mind right then that I was going to free her.  And soon.  As in today.  But how? When? Why? Why! Why, why? I don't know why I asked why.
"Do you want more juice?" my mom asked.
"Why?" I answered, not knowing what I had said.
"Why!" Susie asked surprised.
"Oh," I said, coming out of my trance. "I mean yes."
"Are you feeling OK?  Maybe I should keep you home from school today,"  mom said.
"No, I'm fine.  Just fine.  In fact, I think I'll get going.  I promised Theresa I'd meet her at school early."  I got up and grabbed my bookbag and headed for the door.  I went outside but didn't go get my bike.  Instead I stepped aside and tried to contacted Theresa.
"Theresa?" I asked.
"Yeah?"  she yawned.
"Teleport to school as soon as you can.  We have to make a trap."
"For what?"
"Susie."
Chapter 7

I teleported to school as fast as I could.  Well, actually when you teleport you can't go slow.  But what I ment is that I teleported as soon as I could.  When I got to school Theresa was there.  But there was something different about her.  I just didn't know what.  I couldn't tell.
"Where were you?  I've been waiting for a pretty long!"  Theresa said.
"But that's impossible!  I teleported as quick as I could!"  I answered.
"Well, maybe your communicator is broke," she suggested.
"Yeah.  Maybe," I replied.  Suddenly, someone teleported on both sides of me!  It was Susie and Colleen!  But that was impossible!  They couldn't even morph!
"Whats going on here!"  I exclaimed.  "You to can't even morph!  How can you teleport?  That's it!  This is too weird!  I'm getting out of here!"  I tried to teleport but when I looked down my watch was gone!
"Looking for this?"  Theresa sneered.  She held up my watch.
"Give it back now or else!"  I told her.
"Or else what?  You can't do anything without this!"  Susie sneered.
"What is wrong with you Theresa?  You would never do something like this!"  I complained.
"Oh?  Are you so sure about that?"  Colleen asked.  "Well then, I guess you don't know your friend as well as you think."
"This isn't real!  It can't be real!  Can it?"  I asked.
"Well if it's not real then what is it?"  Theresa said.
"I don't know but I'm getting out of here now!"  I started to run for the door.  I looked behind me.  Noone was following me.  I opened the door and right in front of me was Theresa!  I ran over to the window and opened it.  Susie hopped in!
"Hi.  Did ya miss me?"  She asked.  I ran to the other door.  Then more windows.  Someone popped out of every place I tried!  I looked around and I was surrounded!  There was Theresas, Colleens, and Susies every where!  There was no way out.
"It's time for you to pay Megamorph!  You've caused us a lot of trouble and now your gonna pay!"  Theresa sneered.
"Don't bother trying to escape now sis!  Or should I say 'Kitty'."  Susie mocked.  She was right.  There was no way out.  I had led myself straight into a trap.  But then I realized, they weren't real!  There was no way they could be.  I ran over to the window again and jumped out.
"Ahhhhhhhh!"  Just to let you know, it was a 2-story drop.
Chapter 8

I sat up in bed.  Another nightmare.  But I knew then what I had to do.  Free Susie before it was too late.  And I also knew that Susie wasn't real.  She wasn't even human.  I didn't know what she was but she couldn't be real.  There was no way I could suddenly find a long lost sister.
I left a note for my mom saying I had promised Theresa that I would meet her at school early.  It also said I had made my own breakfast.  That way she wouldn't worry that I had gone to school without eating first.  I got dressed and got my school stuff ready.  I went in the kitchen, made an extra sand witch, put it in my lunch box, got my bike, and teleported to school.
When I got to school, I went up to my classroom and for some strange reason, Theresa was waiting for me.  I couldn't believe it.  It was exactly like my dream.  I didn't know what to expect.  Was it a trap, like my dream had said?  I wasn't quite sure.  Lately, every dream I had had really been some sort of a message.  And, every dream I had kind of came true.
"Where have you been?  I've been waiting for a while," Theresa asked.
"But that's impossible.  You couldn't have been waiting.  I didn't even tell you to meet me here," I said.
"Yes you did, the other day.  Remember?" she answered.
"I don't remember telling you to," I said.
Just then, I looked over at the door and Susie came in.  I wondered how she got here.  I also wondered why she was here.
"What are you doing here?" she asked.
"Me?  What are you doing here?  And for that matter, why is Theresa here?"  And just as I said that, Colleen came in the room.
"Hey, what are you three doing here?" she asked.
"Here's an idea," I suggested.  "How about if we each take turns telling why we're here, OK?"
"OK."  They agreed.  Susie went first.
"I'm here because I told Theresa to meet me here."  Then Theresa said
"I'm here because Susie told me to meet her here early."  Then Colleen answered
"I'm here because Theresa told me Susie told her to meet her here, and Theresa asked me to meet her here."  Then it was my turn.
"I'm here because I had another dream and I was going to contact Theresa and tell her to meet me here.  Oh and by the way Susie.  You're going to a sleepover tonight. Right after school."
Chapter 9

See, that's what my plan was.  Susie would go over to Theresa's house with me and Colleen and we'd have a sleepover.  But there's the plan is she won't be able to leave the sleepover.  You see, every 3 days yeerks have to go to the yeerk pool.  Otherwise they die.  And today was Susie's 3rd day.  And lucky us, we got the job of locking her in Theresa's room until the yeerk dies.  That's not my idea of a fun slumber party.  But somebody had to do something.
Just then the bell rang and kids could be heard coming up the stairs.
"You think this is over don't you?  Well it's not.  And if you think you can keep me locked up the rest of the day, you're wrong!"  Susie sneered.
"We'll settle this later, yeerk,"  I growled.  "But this is far from over."
The day went pretty well, considering the fact that every time Susie would see me she would smirk like she was better than me, or any human for that matter.  (In her dreams.)  Well, she was an alien so I guess I know why she would possibly think that.
That afternoon, right after school we all went over to Theresa's house.  We locked Susie in Theresa's room.  Then I told the others all about my strange dreams.  Like the one I had had the other night.
"I don't know why but I think I can predict the future,"  I was saying.
"OK then tell me whats going to happen," Theresa asked.
"It doesn't work that way," I complained.  Just then I (how should I put it?) saw into the future.  I just knew what would happen.  It was really weird.
"Susie's trying to escape through the window!"  I said.  We ran into the room and sure enough, Susie was in the process of climbing out the window.  We stopped her and tied her up.  Then we locked the door again.  I'm not that good at describing stuff so lets just leave it at this: the yeerk died.  You don't want to know anything else.  Trust me.  It's gross.  But now I had my sister back.  And she was part of the team now.  Our first happy ending in a long time.  But it wouldn't be so happy for long.  We had won for now, but the battle was still going on.  I had my sister back but, we hadn't defeated the yeerks.  Janice, the only controller who knew all our secrets was dead, but that didn't mean she hadn't prob'ly told others.  And most of all, we were a team, but that didn't mean we could all resist the yeerks.  We couldn't all morph.  But we were still Megamorphs.
