In the darkly lit
house, the atmosphere was serene. The children were comfortably asleep
in their beds, and their pet birds were even quiet. Rachel rolled
in her bed next to her husband, snuggling into his warmth and trying to
get a few more hours of sleep before work. Tobias embraced her, enjoying
the warmth as much as she, resting comfortably after a long day.
While she sat there
in her husband's arms, she thought about her children. Always her
children. They were beautiful, always surprising her with their wonderful
thoughts and bright eyes enjoying every minute of their existence.
She couldn't sleep
though, and she could tell her mate could not sleep either. "Tobias,"
she whispered.
"Yes honey?"
He said, drowsily.
"I was just thinking
about our children again, how they've turned out. I think we did good,"
She said.
"Yes, I think we did
too."
He tried to go back
to sleep, and Rachel kept thinking.
She remembered when
she heard the news she was pregnant. She and Tobias had been married
less
than a year, and she started to get morning
sickness, bad. It was a journey she would never forget, and it didn't
end with Torrey being born. She had always surprised Rachel with
her straightforwardness and ability to tell when others were lying.
It was impressive. That was fifteen years ago, it seemed like
a lifetime. Well, it was a lifetime for their daughter. She
had gone from a fetus created by Tobias and Rachel's love, to a aspiring
gymnast that was beginning to become very interested in boys. Rachel
knew boys were going to start knocking on the door any day now. It
made her smile when she thought about herself years ago, much like her
daughter.
She then thought about
Blaire. He had been born nearly thirteen years ago, and was already
impressing Rachel and Tobias with his adept computers skills. He
was a loner in a way, but Rachel thought that he would become more social
when he got more interested in girls.
Jeri was eight now,
and Rachel couldn't believe how fast she had learned gymnastics.
Like her sister, she would be a very good gymnast, and had already performed
in a few competitions.
Scott and Jared, their
twins, were three now. They were always making Rachel realize how
wonderful it was to be a mother. Always doing new things and making
Tobias and her smile. It was amazing how much trouble the two could
get into if left alone.
Rachel came out of her
daze and realized how wonderful her children were again. She had
a thought.
"Tobias, I want another
baby," she said with heavy conviction.
That snapped him awake,
"What?"
"I want another baby.
You know how much I love our children, we make such wonderful children
together. We need another one to stir things up a bit," She said,
making him sure of her case.
"You know, I was actually
thinking the same thing!" He told her.
"Really?"
"Yes, we do need another
child around here," He said smiling.
"Really," she said
playfully. "Can you fulfill your obligations now then?"
He smiled, "Oh, I think
I can manage."
