I galloped off the side
of the well beaten path to the lake.It was frozen now,in the dead of winter, but
that just made the scenery all the more romantic.
< Come on,Jaradara-nal!
>I yelled.< Last time I looked,you still had legs! >
< I'm coming,I'm
coming, >he gasped, unable to run any longer.
< Sure, >I laughed.<
Oh,and look out for that- >
< YYYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
>he
screamed.
< -ice, >I finished,running
back after him.He had broken his leg on the slick patch of ice that wasn't
covered by snow in the dead center of Flaar Lake.It was pretty bad.
< Come on, >I said, using my tail and arms to help
him up.I managed to get him to an unsteady
walk.Then-
< Sinia,listen,
>he whispered frantically.I did.There was nothing.No birds, no noise.
< I Don't,like this
>I whispered.By sheer luck,I glanced down with my stalk eye. < MOVE!
>I screamed, shoving him out of the middle of the lake, half running, half
sliding away myself. Just in time too, because a flaar breached right where
we were standing.
Jaradara limped toward
me.< Come on,we've got to- > his sentence was broken off by a flaar
breaching
right in front of him, startling me into
the hole from its last breach.I screamed from the sheer shock of the frozen
water.Using my tail to hold myself to the hole.
I saw the flaar breach
again, near Jaradara. Then it turned and came after me.
< Heh,heh,heh. >
I knew that laugh.
< So,Sinia,getting
to cocky about killing my father? >
< Golai was a gari
fool,Escafil.I could say the same for you. >
< You'd say that
when your precious Jaradara is slowly suffocating with the current. >
I heard a crack in
the ice, very faint, but I knew what it was.Jaradara, chopping through the
ice. Escafil came after me.I did the only thing I could.I took a deep breath,
and let go.
Down,down in the raging
current,for I don't know how long.I only know I landed under a water fall
and clambered up the ice.I was cold.I was tired. I was half suffocated.
It had not been a good day.
I returned to the rebel
base, only to find Jaradara had not returned. And I knew, deep in my hearts,he
never would return again.
A funeral was held for
Jaradara once they found the remanents of his flaar-digested body.I
didn't attend.I had some...business...with his murderer.
They never found out
why Escafil died that day.
They never found out
where all the Escafil Devices went.
They never found out
why the fourth moon first rose in the Andalite sky that evening, named Jaradara.
But I do.
I slaughtered Escafil
the way he slaughtered my love.
I used the magic I
knew to send all the Escafil Devices thousands of years in the future.
And I again used that
magic to bring that moon to its place,my own tribute to Jaradara.
Then I went back to
my scoop, well hidden from spies, where Fanali and I spent our days. I spent
a few weeks with her,and eventually I recieved the news-the rebel base
had been destroyed. The finial battle would be within hours.
I have given this,the
story of my life,to Fanali, making her promise to continue it.
This is a brutal final
battle. And there's a tail blade aimed at my face.I cannot block it,for
if I do another will destroy me.This tailblade will bring me down...
To be continued...
