Wow. Can any of you believe that FFAP has been at it's present location
for two years? And around for an additional five months or so? Crazy, isn't
it. A little site that started out as little more than the standard, really
boring things that I can hardly remember anymore to a site this large blows
my mind.
Let's see...how did FFAP start two years ago? Honestly, I was a copy cat.
I think it was the day after Elfy created 'Elfy's Animorphs Page' that
I decided I could do that, too. So taking the name we'd (she'd actually)
remembered a few weeks back in a Star Trek chat when I wanted to morph
dolphin, too, I came up with a catchy title with it and slapped together
something that vaguely resembled a website at Angelfire (evil place!).
I even remember the address, which is kinda sad. I remember almost nothing
of that site except that the background was a starry thing that most Animorph
pages on Angelfire had and this same green font-color, although I was so
lame at HTML it was boring Times
New Roman. Ew. Yuck.
FFAP (which, at the time, I was still calling Forlay's Fantastic Animorphs
Page. Quite a mouthful [or fingerful, when you're typing] Aren't you glad
I shortened it?) gradually grew untill it was a marginally popular site.
I had monthly contests, a chat room. But eventually I came up with what
would soon be FFAP's trade mark: Fan Fiction.
My first story, frankly, sucked. And yet I still keep the thing on this
page, wasting space. I don't know why. Oh, wait, I do. I have this complex
about throwing anything out (you never know when you'll need it!) and I've
convinced myself into thinking that I'll actually re-write the stupid thing
one of these days. Wanna go see it? Most of you've probably already read
it: Animorphs: The Second Coming. Despite how cliche it is now, it was
actually one of the first "New-Animorphs-Who-Are-The-Kids-Of-The-Original-Animorphs"
stories out there. And definetly the first to take place on the Andalite
homeworld, thank you very much. I was quite proud of that story when it
first came out.
Aren't you glad I can write better now? I know I am.
Anyways, FFAP grew at a fairly steady pace...untill Angelfire decided to
be stupid and crash. Twice. Losing everything I had on the site. Evil.
So I said to heck with it and on May 8, 1998 at 3:39 PM (Eastern Daylight
Time) I opened up FFAP here at Geocitties. That, my friends, is
when FFAP became as wonderful as it is today.
Oh, sure, I started out kinda crappy (again), with a cutsy background and
lame attempts at cool HTML stuff, even going through a phase where I went
Java-happy and even tried to keep up a "Java" and "Non-Java" page. Suggestion:
Don't do that. It's insane.
But a year ago (more or less. I think I came up with this on the first
B-Day...that summer, anyway) I changed the format to the simple, yet elegant,
design you see on the main page. And, gosh darn it, I like it that way,
so it's gonna stay that way, got it? At least for awhile...untill I decide
to go crazy again and re-disign it....
So that's the history of FFAP in a nutshell. But the history's still being
written, and you, yeah, the person reading this, are helping to shape that
history. Honest! FFAP is a fan driven site, with fan fics (key word being
fan, you) written by you and in the monthly Challenges, songs and
poems, every person who contributes something is adding to the way FFAP
is growing and changing.
So, what will this year be bringing to FFAP? I can't tell ya' that, it's
top secret ;-) No, quite honestly, despite my jokes about being omnipotent
and all knowing, I can't really see the future. Only the Ellimist can do
that, and I seriously doubt that guy's judgement sometimes. I can tell
you that it's going to be a fun and exciting year. You can't have any other
kind of experience at FFAP, can you?
Thanks for a great two years, let's make the third even better!!!
