Max joined the Robotech Defense Force after the initial Zentraedi attack. He learns quick and becomes one of the best pilots in the RDF but his amazing skills is not olny reconized by the RDF but also by the Zentraedi.

He destroyes many Zentraedi but notice's one pilot has superior skills almost equal to his! But he isn't the olny one who feels that this is an equal match, Miriya Parino one of the best Zentraedi pilots notice's that he just may be better than her and views Max as a personal challange. Miriya later attempts to kill Max in single air to air combat. Max manages to beat Miriya but she vows revenge and makes a dicision to become micronized. After Miriya is micronized she slips abord the SDF-1. She manages to find Max in an arcade where she chalanges Max to a simulated Battroid game, She and Max play a long game and attract a large crowd when she relizes that this human has great skill and decides that this must be the pilot that beat her and she plots to kill Max when she meets him in the park for the date Max set up. She attacks him but once agian is bested by him. She soon relizes that she is attracted to Max and the two soon get married becoming the first Human/Zentraedi relationship!

After the first Max and Miriya join Rick and Lisa in the construction of the SDF-3. Max and Miriya leave their child, Dana, is left under the care of General Rolf Emerson while the two went to the home planet the Robotech Masters, Tirol, to reason with them. While fighting with the Invid at Tirol Max and Miriya had another child and named her Aurora.
