Alexander, Christopher, A PATTERN LANGUAGE. I was in the University of Oregon in Eugene when Alexander and crew were working on the project that became "Pattern Language". I love the concept and the system.

Skousen, Joel M., THE SURVIVAL HOME MANUAL, Second Edition, USA, The Survival Homes Corporation, Inc., 1982. We're not bug-eyed survivalists, but there are some very practical considerations in this book.

Todd, Nancy Jack and John Todd, FROM ECO-CITIES TO LIVING MACHINES, Principles of Ecological Design, USA, Berkeley, CA, North Atlantic Books, 1994, ISBN 1-55643-150-3, LC#: 93-26499. I've tried getting some specific help from the group these authors belong to, but haven't been able to get much out of them. The company is very much into selling their bio-machine water systems to towns here and in other countries. What I want is a system for a homeowner. It's another great concept, though.
