This fresco painting from the 14th Century depicted the Crucifixion.
Look at the craft with occupant steering with what seems to be a joy stick or shift type mechanism. Notice the exhaust coming from the vehicle. Does the craft look foreign by today's standards? Was Jesus Christ being flown away in a helicopter or shuttle vehicle? If engines didn't exist back in the 14th Century, how did the artist conceive of this?  These are just a few puzzling questions from but one of hundreds of painting, cuneiform drawings and written words describing a technology which seems quite familiar by today's standards. 

The fresco is perhaps one of history's greatest documents.
