Jareth VelvetSteel

~*Goblin King*~

In short, we all know who he is. An arrogant, pig headed, control freak of a dude, complete with hair that would scare the stink off a skunk. Ok, maybe I'm getting a little descriptive. *L* I'll get serious now... *sigh*

Race: Goblin Kin. An infusion of goblin, Fae, and human. The most noticable indications of this race are the slender claws in place of fingernails, as well as small points on toenails. The eyes may be any colour under the sun, purple, red, you name it, but within a few shade ranges, the colour will shift with emotional disturbance. The lighter the colour, the more intense the emotion generally. On the note of emotion, the major characteristic for the Goblin Kin race, is an extended and magnified range of feeling. Imagine how many little fleeting inklings of emotion you have through out the day, then times it by a hundred, and presto! You've got Goblin Kin.

This often leads, as can be expected, to a lot of trouble, especially when coupled with a bad temper, as in Jareth's case, and arrogance to boot.

Kin have a very long life span, usually around 12,000 years if you're going by earth time that is. Jareth, is just short of middle aged at 5126.

There are several structural differences to Goblin Kin the largest being the muscle structure. While humans, elves, trolls, orcs and most other creatures have muscles wrapping around bone and joints both horizontally and vertically, kin muscle is for the most part longitudinal thus resulting in a smooth movement. Bone is much like feline structure, thin etc. The cartilage replaces much bone space, and the vertebrae are shorter to allow for more flexibility.

Kin blood is healthy when dark navy blue. Any shift in the hue spells trouble, be it lighter or darker. The blood itself works as a virus in any form that isn't kin by birth, meaning should you ingest, or be transfused with blood of a goblin kin, you're in for a little surprise. It will alter you to some extent, modeling you into a "Kinling", or a weaker version of a birth kin. There is nothing like this 'virus' on earth, or in any other realm so far discovered, so no antibody against it exists to the best of my knowledge. However, a Kinling is not permanently changed. The virus will eventually break itself down, unless a large amount of the blood contaminates the subject's system. The only method in which to revert such a subject to their normal form when this occurs is a total blood transfusion and even this may fail if the blood has been circulating for too long. Creating a kinling will increase the subject's life span by some small number as well, depending on the amount of blood used in the transformation.

Most Kin have a shifting ability of some sort, the basic being a cat. Variations on the cat can be made given the strength of the Kin's mage skills. Facial features carried over indicates a higher level of skill. For instance a lower level kin shift to lion would be unrecognizable as that individual however, a kin mage with more power (such as an adept) might look recognizable, as Jareth does in lion form.

Strengths

Jareth's strengths are, for the most part, not physical. His build is far from strong leaning more toward thin than anything, though he is 6'7". In combat that doesn't include magicks, Jareth would score rather low, his only saving grace being his agility. With swords, he is horrid, having admitted so himself more than once. With magick however, the scales tip hard in his favor. An adept mage with node tapping abilities and an abyss link, his magick is fairly inexhaustible, not to mention Jareth will try any combination of spells or casts if he thinks it'll be a good show.

However, stronger than his mage skills is his ability to speak convincingly. Jareth could talk the devil into behaving nicely if the mood took him. He usually opts for physical combat as a last restort, (or when he REALLY loses his temper) since most issues can be dealt with through words. "Words as Weapons Sharper than Knives" holds very true.

Perhaps this isn't a strength persay, but Jareth also possesses some artistic ability. Often times if he hasn't anything else to do, he paints, sketches or the like. While he doesn't play any instrument (with any measure of skill that is) he sings fairly, and is capable of composing songs as well.

Personality Traits

Now we come to the personality. Jareth is basically a tangle of traits that one wouldn't think could be possessed by the same being all at once. Let's start with the obvious. Jareth, is a narcissitic creature, and has no qualms about letting people know. I remember quite fondly speaking of it over tea one day. Jareth's words to me in response were simply "If you've got it, flaunt it." Oh course, I won't tell you WHAT the question was exactly, that would be cheating. I'm sure I don't need to anyway. At any rate, he is not modest in the least and uses this to intimidate others. Which brings us to the fact that Jareth also has something of a control complex. When something is out of his control, he gets upset. There's simply nothing more to it. And if he doesn't get upset by this, he pretends he DOES control that particular thing which makes him so upset to begin with. Being fickle, he often changes his mind over things that perhaps should be steadfast. 1
