Before he started sliding, Quinn lived in a quiet neighborhood in San Francisco.
After his father died when he was eleven, he lived with his widowed mother,
skipped two grades at elementary school and graduated with flying colors. During
his time at the University Of California, he studied Advanced Physics and would
often retreat to his basement to invent things.
It was during this time, while trying to invent an anti-gravity device that he stumbled upon an inter-dimensional vortex. After
excessive tests on the vortex he built a timer that would return the traveler home.
During this time Quinn received a visit from a "double": a Quinn from another dimension. This Quinn, experienced with sliding,
helped him finish his calculations and warned him not to alter the timer... but he left before finishing his warning.
Quinn slid anyway with his companions and foolishly changed the timer. This sent the sliders on an endless quest through
countless dimensions to find their way back home.
Wade Wells
Played by: Sabrina Lloyd
Wade was Quinn's best friend, and they worked together at the Doppler Computer
Store. Wade had always been better with computers than Quinn.
Wade used to attend North Shore Junior college before she started sliding. There
she majored in extemporaneous poetry and prose.
She has a slight crush on Quinn, but their relationship failed when they started
Sliding. When Quinn explained to her his new discovery, she was amazed at his find. She insisted on sliding straight away, and
so, along with the professor, they did.
Wade has been sliding ever since.
Rembrant Brown "The Cryin Man"
Played by: Cleavant Derricks
Rembrandt used to be a singer. He and his group, the Spinning Topps, had several
gold records. But after the group split Rembrandt's career faded.
However, Rembrandt was on his way to his big comeback, to sing the Star
Spangled banner at a football game, when his life took an amazing turn. To allow
for three people to slide, Quinn had turned up the power on the wormhole. This
caused the wormhole to move through the wall and out into the street... directly in the path of Rembrandt's Cadillac.
Rembrandt slid and left his beautiful Cadillac in the first world he landed in. Eventually he got over it, and joined his new friends
in their journey home.
Professor Maximillian Arturo
Played by: John Rhys-Davies
Originally from England, Arturo is an internationally noted physicist. He was
Regents Professor of Cosmology and Ontology at the University of California. It
was there he met Quinn Mallory, a bright young student after his own heart.
One day Quinn confronted the professor to show him something amazing he had
discovered. Arturo was taken to Quinn's basement where he was shown the
inter-dimensional vortex. Arturo was eager to explore the worlds that this door opened to and soon joined Quinn, Wade and
Rembrandt in sliding.
Three years later, the Professor tragically died. The sliders landed on a world about to be devastated by pulsars from a distant
exploding star. But the sliders would be able to survive if they helped the military camp they landed in escape to a new world.
This was done, but Arturo suffered an injury at the hands of the military's evil leader, Colonel Rickman. He extracted some of
the professor's brain tissue, and left him stuttering and weak. However, this did not stop him saving the sliders' lives by losing
his own. He took a bullet for Quinn. His dying words were "Get them home..."
Maggie Beckett
Played by: Kari Wuhrer
Maggie is not from Earth Prime like the rest of the sliders. She came from the world
Professor Arturo died in, the world about to be destroyed by pulsars.
Maggie used to be a fighter pilot. The daughter of a Major, she was a perfect
soldier. She married Dr. Steven Jensen (played by Mark Kiely), but kept her
maiden name to honor her father. After Jensen had an accident while skiing,
Maggie decided to give up being a pilot and stay on the ground.
Jensen was studying inter-dimensional travel. He could track wormholes and store dimension co-ordinates, but this was little
good without being able to open the wormhole. When Quinn and the other sliders slid into their world, Jensen made an
agreement with Quinn to modify his timer with his technology, if Quinn would build his timer. Quinn agreed and when it was
finished, Maggie and Quinn were assigned to scouting new worlds.
With the new world found and the transition to it ready to go, the evil Colonel Rickman killed Jensen in cold blood. When
Maggie found out about it on the new world, she promised to get even with Rickman no matter what it would take.
