HistoryThe earliest known histories of the Zinthrathi tell of ancestors that spanned thousands of worlds traversing the stars and conquering worlds with the dark gifts of "technology". It is not known to the Zinthrathi exactly why, but this empire crumbled. Many of the Zinthrathi believe this to be a combination of both uncivilized intellect and use of technology (a mistake they see the Terrans as repeating). For whatever the reason the empire that had spanned the galaxy and beyond was reduced to but a single world, and that world to a ruin. From this ruin the new birth of the Zinthrathi was forged in their new beliefs and purpose of vision.
PhysiologyThe typical Zinthrathi stands about two meters or a bit taller, are slightly wider in the shoulders than humans, and have skinny, sinewy frames. They walk bipedally, identical to humans, and have two arms, two eyes, a nasal cavity, and a mouth. The Zinthrathi face is more or less diamond shaped and flat. Their eyes are slightly almond shaped, and on outer appearances all one color. Their nose is nonexistant, instead they have two parrallel slits in roughly the same location as a humans nose. Thier mouths are considerably less expressive than a humans, largely due to less muscles in the face, and their teeth are similar to a humans, but more obviously herbivourus. Thier skin color is usually grayish, sometimes with a hint of other colors (i.e. blue-gray, or green-gray, varieties). Jet black or white Zinthrathi are born with the approximate frequency of human albinos. Skin patterns range from the common one color to the less common mottled or spotted skin and the even less frequent stripe pattern. Zinthrathi have both male and female sexes, although both are nearly indistinguishable to non-Zinthrathi, and no major distinction is made in their society. Sexual organs are found on the lower abdomen, and are internal except during actual copulation. Gestation of young takes place inside the female, with typical gestation periods being roughly 16 months terran time. Zinthrathi live for an average of 320 terran years, with maturity reached at roughly 40 or 50 years of age. All Zinthrathi are inherently empathic and some are telepathic.
SocietyZinthrahi society is caste based. But, rather than being based on the birth status of the parents, it is based on the latent ability of the child to control Zinthrathi bio-technology (see technology). The children are raised by elders of the appropriate caste, and taught the values and skills necessary to survive and prosper. The normal unit of Zinthrathi society is a tribelike sctructure, living in small collectives existing independantly from each other. Each tribe is lead by an elder elected by everyone in the tribe who has undergone that tribe's right of passage into adulthood, regardless of caste. These elders lead their tribes, and in turn meet twice a year with the other tribe leaders to discuss what should be done about various topics and crises. It is this Council which is the main governing body of the Zinthrathi, and one Council member elected by the others meets in the High Council with Zinthrathi from other worlds. It is this High Council which elects any military leaders in times of such crisis. The Zinthrathi have no standing military or police forces, and until recently were totally inexperienced in war. Caste privelages and responsiblities are seen as duties by the Zinthrathi, and the concept of power-mongering and abusing ones caste inferiors is unheard of amongst Zinthrathi. This may be partly a result of the inherent dangers of extended bio-construct bonding, but more likely it is simply the result of a more advanced and enlightened society. The Zinthrathi's main form of communication is a mixture of gestures and empathic signals, but they do have a spoken and written language for aid in long-distance communication and discussion of higher concepts. Zinthrathi society follows a rigid structure of public address. A specific person is identified by his title and name among anyone but friends and co-workers (e.g. Primate Harvester I'ish, Enforcer Kye'eel). When his name is not known he is addressed by title with an honorific (e.g. Songweaver Sir, Trainer Sir (Note: sir is an example, the Zinthrathi honorifics are neuter.)). Friends and co-workers would address the person simply by title (e.g. Harvester), while the closest of friends, family, and mates would use simply his or her name (e.g. I'ish). Psychology
