December 21, 1996-- KEITH'S VIEW: Our first ever show took place in the lakeside shanty-town of Manitowoc,WI near a gigantic Pabst bottle. All of the other bands could be classified as "pop-punk" or "hardcore." We played second, starting with our old "intro song" known as "Enter the Entrance" with each member coming onstage one at a time. Cheesy as hell! We then proceeded through the early-A.K.E. material such as "Love Me Blender", "Stiff", "The Tongue is Dry", "Physically Deficient", etc... Very slow, stiff and nervous. We drank some Jolt Cola during the show. Jon's drum kit fell apart a few times. Bill and I used borrowed amps. Maciek shocked his old Manty-punk friends by playing a synthesizer! A friend of mine later told me that she overheard some kid during the show describing us as "Johnny Rotten sings for Devo." A fairly large crowd showed up, with many faces that would later be seen at AluminumKnotEye concerts. You know who you are and should feel honored(?) that you saw us in our tadpole stage!!! |
