Riddle-Master:
The Complete Trilogy, by Patricia McKillip. |
Penny
Hall first introduced me to the Riddlemaster of
Hed during my piano lessons at her house, and the
tale so enchanted me that I've since bought my
own copies of the trilogy....twice. Yes, it's
that good! |
Morgon
of Hed is the educated young ruler of his farming
community, but the three stars on his forehead
argue that he's something more... The book opens
with Morgon's admission that he won a high-stakes
riddle contest with a ghost, and his surprise to
find that the prize is Raederle, the woman he
already loves. But when a harp with the
mysterious three stars cross his path, he finds
himself the target of shape shifting enemies bent
on slaying him. He accompanies Deth, the High
One's Harpist, to Erlenstar and the home of the
High One. But what he finds at Erlenstar shatters
all reasonable expectations...and the reader is
catapulted into the second book, where Raederle
is searching the land for any trace of the
missing Morgon. |
Riddle-Master
is a beautiful journey through an imaginative new
fantasy world with a deep history all its own.
The details, the characters, the plot
twists...all will leave you yearning for more. |
