From the diary of Megan:

When I wrote to my mother next, Aunt Constance also wrote an addition to the letter. What she wrote, did the trick, something which was obvious when I got the reply in the mail two weeks later. The words which my aunt put down on paper did a little good, not very much, because now the governess was asking if I could spend EVERY summer in England, something which was way too expensive for my uncle to be doing.

When I showed this newest suggestion to my aunt, she felt that this nonsense was going to have to be stopped, here and now, because it was really starting to get out of hand. Rather than write a letter, she felt it best to contact my uncle, and see if he had actually agreed to foot the bill for my annual trips. When I asked my aunt to not call, she agreed that writing an addition to my next letter might accomplish the same task as what calling would, and be cheaper than a very long distance phone call to boot. 1
