I was born in North Carolina in 1955 and have spent most of my adult life here. Yes that makes me an old lady..LOL..but we all get older.I am 46, overweight (the doctors say obese, but then they say that if you are 5 pounds over, hubby says pleasingly plump, I lean more towards hubby..grin). I spent most of my childhood years moving all over the Eastern Seaboard and even spent some time in Germany. My father was in the Army and his job required lots of moving. So lots of schools. My memories of my childhood are happy ones, pain and sorrow didn't enter until I became an adult.
I was married for the first time in 1975 at the ripe old age of 18. I was young and in love with love and was not prepared for life at all. My former husband thought my parents hadn't raised me right and so my discipline began. At that time I had never heard of womens shelters and divorce was unheard of in our family. Living in a seperate state from my parents and beaten if I called them I had no-one and nowhere to turn. The first time I realized that I did have an option was when I got my first speeding ticket in Mount Olive, N.C. late in the year of '75. I was running away from home when I was stopped for doing 95 in a 45 mile zone. I was so close to my parents it made me sick to have to stop..I will never forget the kindness of the officers that day..you see I had 2 black eyes and a dislocated jaw, some broken teeth and a slight concussion. They got me to my Dad and from there I was on the road to healing, only I didn't realize that at the time.
Today I am married with two wonderful children and an 2 adorable grandsons. While my children are my lifes blood my husband is my heart. If it hadn't been for his love and patience I don't think I would be as well adjusted as I am today. Now I look back on my first brief marriage and can mourn for the two babies I lost through abuse without fear of retribution and I can look to the future and see years of joy stretching before me.
My daughter is 21, married and living in Texas. She has blessed us with 2 adorable grandsons. C.J. is 3 years old now and Devin is 1. Both are heartbreakers already. As my daughter goes through the trials and tribulations of parenthood she calls me more and more for advice on how to handle discipline, potty training, pacifier breaking, etc. She works hard to help her husband make a home for their two sons. She really has a full plate with 2 small children, 2 jobs and going to college. She is studing to be a Veteranarian.
My son is 15 and has entered his teenageitis years. Somehow we will survive them intact and alive..LOL..He is one of the sweetest kids I know. Of course that could just be his Momma talking but somehow I don't think so. He goes through his rebellious times but his sweet side takes over for the most part. He has set goals for himself and I take pride in watching him trying to achieve them.
