Frank Patrick Herbert
Born in Tacoma, Washington, Frank Herbert is one of the most read writers of all time.
From his humble beginnings as a newspaper editor, he broke into the science-fiction world
with the publication of "Dune World", a short story that would later become the novel Dune.
His best known novel went on to win the Nebula and Hugo Awards and became science-fiction
history. Frank Herbert continued to write and produced five sequels to Dune and a multitude
of other novels. The catalyst of all these books, Dune, was made into a high budget movie
in 1984, plagued with set backs and ultimately a box office failure. Frank Herbert dealt
with many futuristic subjects in his novels yet all are fightingly related to ourselves.
Sadly, Frank Herbert died in 1986 leaving co-writer Bill Ransom to finish
their last book together and leaving many other stories untold.
