Drow Religion

Religion is perhaps one of the strongest holds upon the drow, for it is the basis of their lives and their actions. There are a number of religions in which the drow believe, but the one true power seen is Lloth her self. She is to be considered the creator the the way of life in which the drow live, and though her desires and meddling, the drow are often punished with a life time of hatred and pain. Besides Lloth, there are three other gods in which some of the drow believe in. They are Vhaeraun, Eilistraee, and Ghaunadaur.

Lloth

Aliases: Lolth, The Spider Queen, Moander the Darkbringer

Lloth is a cruel and merciless goddess. She is believed by many to be quite insane, though she has many worshippers. She delights in turning them against eachother so that only the strongest, most devious, and deadly of her followers will survive. She secretly wishes to be worshipped by the people of the surface realms, and sometimes journeys though the communities trying to convert followers. She has gained a slight hold on the surface, as she has snathed up many of the followers of the former god, Moander. She has been using his name as an alias for her own, in order to aquire more followers from the surface. To many drow, Lloth is the entire meaning of their lives, especally for females. Therefore many males have taken up the following of some of the other gods.

Vhaeraun

Aliases:The Masked Lord

Vhaeraun is the drow god of Thievery, Intrigue, and the furthering of drow aims, interests, and power on the "Night Above". Vhaeraun is also the god of drow males opposed to the Lloth matriarchy. He is handsome, even vain, and never forgets slights and deceptions. He is perhaps Lloth's main adversary for followers, as he is a better alternative to the rule of Lloth. Do to this "foe", priestesses of Lloth are very egar to kill any followers of the Masked Lord. However, Vhaeraun will always listen to his followers and is always there to help with either a thought hiding spell, or to directly protect his follower. He wants a hold on the surface, and his followers have preformed that feat. Throughout Faerun, there are a few drow settlements which have been formed by the worship of Vhaeraun. Despite his mysterious and shadowy personality, Vhaeraun is a very good alternative to Lloth.

Ghaunadaur

Alaises: The Elder Eye, The Elder Elemental God, Gorumauth Souldrinker, "That Which Lurks"

Ghaunadaur is the God of oozes, slimes, and jellies. He is yet another alternative to Lloth, though unlike Vhaeraun, he has no interest in the surface. He is interested in the sacrafice of life, and expects praises and sacrafices at least once a day from his followers. Not much is known about "That Which Lurks", but GHaunadaur's worshippers should be feared and avoided if possible.

Eilistraee

Alaises: The Dark Maiden

Eilistraee is the goddess of song and beauty, and is also the goddess of those drow who are deemed good. Those drow that wish to return to the surface, sometimes worship he, though the followers of Vhaeraun do not see eye to eye with them. Eilistraee enjoys watching her followers dancing beneath the stars and the moon upon the surface. Truly Eilistraee is perhaps one of the most interesting of the drow gods.
